Snark is the overarching antagonist in video game series Mary Skelter, becoming the main antagonist of Nightmares. He is the tyrannical and manipulative founder of the Jail and the true leader of the Nightmares, who is responsible for enforcing the cruel treatment of its inmates cause of his disdain for humanity, with Alice and Jack being prime examples of the damage he's caused, but it is revealed that he is actually an power-hungry alien who seeks to use the "Witchcraft Core" as a way to end up recreating his home world after it was destroyed and create a more powerful version of the Jail so he could exert god-like control over it and rule over it with an iron fist. Personality[]
Snark is a callous, power-hungry, and deceptive alien with a lack of regard for human life, planning to use the "Witchcraft Core" to remake the world in his own image, expressing no concern or remorse for the lives that will be lost. He also displays high intelligence and charisma when it comes to using multiple individuals to reach his true goals and shows little to no respect for humans at all, being completely arrogant and boasting that they are beneath his own race.
Despite this, Snark is still shown to have some twisted care for his own race, planning to recreate a new world for them to thrive in, but still his relationship with Haru is antagonistic due to this mindset as he still views huamans as dirt beneath his feet.
Biography[]
Mary Skelter: Nightmares Prequel Novel[]
15 years prior to the events of Mary Skelter: Nightmares, the original members of Dawn lead an expedition into the Jail Tower. Despite originally believing the area to be completely uninhabited by even Marchens, all of the members of Dawn are killed. When Professor Tohjima is attempting to flee, Snark reveals himself while also introducing himself, saying "My name is Snark. I am the Boojum".
Mary Skelter: Nightmares[]
Snark is first seen in Chapter 7, when the party are attempting to interrogate the Station Grounds Nightmare. During the attempted questioning, Snark appears and kills the Nightmare, before promptly leaving. Despite most of the party being in fear due to being informed of Snark's supposed danger, Rapunzel is the first to note that he is actually rather weak.
Final Chapter[]
After Mamoru and Hikari are resurrected with the memories of the Dawn's former Leader and Doctor, they attempt to help the party through the Upper Tower. At one point, Mamoru asks if they killed the Tower Base Nightmare, to which they explain that they did. Mamoru, acting as the former Leader, laments how they wished they knew about the cores so they might have had a chance to survive. Confused, the party asks if it was Snark that killed them or the Tower Nightmare I, to which the Leader responds that it was the latter, having never heard of Snark. This makes the group uneasy, but with no other answers, they continue on.
At the top of the tower, the group finds the Professor, Miko, Haru, Michiru, and Chiaki. They have the opportunity to find out the real traitor of the group and Snark's true identity. While Snark's alter ego will be revealed no matter the player's choice, the ending will alter depending on the answers given.
If the questions are answered incorrectly, Snark will sacrifice all of the followers of the Order of the Sun to create Evil God. Once Evil God is defeated, the Jail Tower will collapse and Snark will be nowhere to be found.
If they are answered correctly, the party saves the Order of the Sun and confront Snark, who uses the product of the Moon's insemination to become the Jail Nightmare, while Hikari will inversely become the Angelic Girl. Hikari will allow the party to fight the newly transformed Snark. Once defeated, the Jail Nightmare disappears, and Snark is killed.
