Snarler is a supporting antagonist in the Transformers franchise, based on a figure from the 1988 toyline. He is the main antagonist of Marvel UK's "The Way of the Warrior" and "Cry Wolf" storylines.
Biography[]
Snarler arrived on Earth in the aftermath of "Time Wars" and joined up with Carnivac and Catilla, the surviving members of the Decepticon Mayhem Squad. They contacted Earth Decepticon commander Scorponok, who provided them with fuel and Pretender shells resembling animals in exchange for them carrying out a mission for him: Assassinating Spike Witwicky, the Headmaster partner of Scorponok's old rival Fortress Maximus. Snarler and Carnivac attacked Spike while he was on a skiing holiday but he managed to summon and combine with Fortress Maximus, who easily defeated the Decepticons.
When Carnivac and Catilla formed an alliance with Springer, Broadside and Inferno, the three Autobots they had fought alongside during the Time Wars, Snarler was furious and threatened to charge them with fraternising with the enemy unless they killed the Autobots. When they were attacked by a group of limbo demons, Snarler suggested that letting the Autobots die would be enough, but Carnivac and Catilla instead went to help them.
Snarler returned to Cybertron and formed a new Decepticon Mayhem Squad comprising Spinister, Needlenose, Bludgeon, Octopunch and Stranglehold, leaving them back to Earth to execute the two renegades. He privately admitted that he liked Carnivac but was worried that the defection would lead other Decepticons to question their cause, something he could not allow. He set a giant hell-hound loose on a human town in the hope of attracting the attention of the Autobots and was delighted when instead Carnivac himself turned up. After a protracted battle, first Catilla and then the Autobots came to his rescue. Snarler and the others retreated, but not before Catilla was killed.
Aware Carnivac would now be after them for revenge, Snarler chose to set up base on an island and wait for him to come to them. Carnivac managed to pick off Needlenose before being tracked down by the rest of the Decepticons and apparently blown apart by Spinister. As the others moved on, Snarler lingered to gloat over the wreckage...only to realize it was merely Carnivac's empty Pretender shell that had been blown apart. Moments later, Carnivac dropped a large chunk of metal on him, crushing him to death.
