Snug is the loyal canine companion of Portia Maye, also known as The Houndmaster, and serves as the secondary antagonist of CHAPTER 34: Doomed Course. While most killers wield weapons or supernatural powers, Portia brings something far more emotionally loaded to the fog: a dog named Snug, trained for blood and bound by tragedy.
Biography[]
Snug was born the runt of a litter of Cane Corso puppies gifted to Portia Maye by her father, a merchant who brought them back from a trade expedition to Italy. While the other pups were strong and boisterous, Snug was small, quiet, and overlooked—until Portia chose him. Their bond was immediate and profound, forged in the quiet hours of Portia’s grief and isolation following the death of her mother. Snug became her shadow, her solace, and eventually, her weapon.
Portia trained Snug not just in obedience but in blood tracking, scent recognition, and tactical pursuit. As her emotional world narrowed, Snug became the one constant—loyal, unflinching, and utterly devoted. When Portia’s descent into vengeance began, Snug followed without hesitation. He was not corrupted by the Entity’s fog in the same way Portia was instead, he became an extension of her will, a living reminder of the humanity she once had and the loyalty she still clings to.
In the Realm of the Entity, Snug is both companion and tool. He assists Portia in her hunt through her power Scent of Blood, using his tracking instincts to locate injured survivors. Yet despite his role in the violence, Snug remains emotionally untouched—a creature of love caught in a world of horror. Players can even pet Snug during gameplay, a rare moment of tenderness that underscores his symbolic role: comfort in chaos, loyalty in loss.
