Sure. I could. But there's a better way. (...) Yeah. Heh. I get two more guys, guys who know how to handle themselves. Now, we roll up to the subject in an unmarked van. We grab him, put him in a bag, and we take him out to the desert. (...) Now, by the end of the day, the banker's giving you everything you're after, alright? (...) No, no, no, l-l-look, you get keys to the kingdom, guaranteed.
~ Sobchak's proposal about Kevin Wachtell to Jimmy McGill and Kim Wexler.

Sobchak, also known as Mr. X, is a minor character in the crime drama series Better Call Saul. He is a criminal and private investigator for hire.

He was portrayed by Steven Ogg, who also played Trevor Philips in Grand Theft Auto V and Simon in The Walking Dead.

History[]

Season 1[]

Sobchak is hired alongside Mike Ehrmantraut and Man Mountain by Caldera as bodyguards for Daniel Wormald (under the alias "Pryce"). While the three meet at a parking garage to wait for Pryce, Sobchak makes a comment about them dealing with "ethnic types", whom he claims are more hot-tempered. He learns that Mike did not bring a gun, leading him to believe he is not suited for the job. When Pryce arrives, Sobchak asks him to split the money between only him and Man Mountain and fire Mike. Mike says if he needs a gun, he will use one from Sobchak, who in response appears to hand a pistol to Mike and on Mike's request aims it at his head. Sobchak is disarmed by Mike and lunges at him, but Mike clubs him in the trachea with the butt of the gun, knocking him to the ground. As Sobchak lies on the floor, clutching his throat and gasping for air, Mike takes all of his weapons and disposes of them after Man Mountain flees.

Season 5[]

Sobchak, going by his professional name Mr. X, is later hired by Jimmy McGill to find "dirt" on Kevin Wachtell that Jimmy and Kim Wexler could use against him. He breaks into Kevin's house, having tested the security system, and takes photos of his home office and documents there. During a meeting with Jimmy and Kim, Sobchak expresses disappointment at finding nothing he considers useful, and suggests kidnapping Kevin and torturing the information out of him. Jimmy and Kim disagree with this tactic and dismiss him.

Trivia[]

  • Sobchak's name is a reference to Walter Sobchak from the film The Big Lebowski.
  • Sobchak's role in Season 5 of Better Call Saul was originally intended for Patrick Kuby but was rewritten for him due to scheduling conflicts.
