Sobek is a supporting antagonist of Agatha Christie's 1944 historical mystery novel, Death Comes As the End, and the third victim of the story. He is the younger brother of Yahmose and the elder brother of Ipy.
History[]
Sobek is an arrogant, extravagant and addicted man who is prone to conspicuous consumption and violence, a hard-drinking spendthrift with anger-management issues and a tendency to take out his anger in animals (such as killing a cobra to blow off some steam).
After the death of Nofret and Satipy, Sobek was the third victim to go. The killer intentionally drinks poisoned wine in order to kill his brother. The killer is careful to only drink enough to make himself sick. Because Yahmose was known as a man of moderation, while Sobek tended towards excess, no one was surprised that Yahmos has only consumed a little of the wine and survived, while Sobek consumes a lot and died.
Because he was the first to drink the wine, this also set up Yahmose's alibi, since it made the situation appear that Yahmose was the target and Sobek was killed by a collateral damage. A slave boy, who served as the killer's unwilling accomplice, claimed that the ghost of Nofret had poisoned the wine and attempted to kill off the brothers. Soon, the real killer killed the slave boy with poison as well.
