Sofie Fatale is a supporting antagonist of the 2003 film Kill Bill Vol. 1, the first installment of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill film series.
She is O-Ren Ishii's lawyer, translator, second-in-command as well as her best friend.
She was portrayed by Julie Dreyfus.
Biography[]
Sofie Fatale is present at the "House of Blue Leaves" when the Bride arrives to kill O-Ren Ishii. The Bride is in the bathroom when Sofie walks in and answers her phone; the Auld Lang Syne ringtone is recognized by the Bride. She remembers that Sofie was present during the El Paso massacre, but did not assist in beating the Bride. The Bride captures Sofie and brings her to O-Ren Ishii. The Bride then cuts off Sofie's left arm (the arm she holds her phone with) as a means of both enacting revenge on her and showing Ishii her intentions for a duel. In the end, The Bride would kill Ishii in their showdown after she eliminates her army called the Crazy 88; this includes killing Ishii's personal bodyguard Gogo Yubari and top enforcer Johnny Mo in the process.
Later, the Bride interrogates Sofie to learn the location of the rest of the members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, cutting off her right forearm and threatening to further dismember her if she refuses to speak. After cutting her other arm she tells the Bride everything she wants to know. She then sends her rolling down a hill to a hospital for medical attention so she can live on and tell her leader Bill what has happened and that the Bride is still alive. Bill visited her in the hospital where Sofie relayed that to him.
Trivia[]
- Sofie is of mixed Japanese/French descent and serves as an interpreter who can speak English, Japanese and French quite fluently.
- The Japanese-released version included a scene where The Bride cut off Sofie's other arm, while the Western-released version shows her with that arm.
- Tarantino has revealed plans for Vol. 3 with Sofie as the main antagonist. The premise follows her inheriting both Bill's and O-Ren's money and training Vernita Green's daughter, Nikki, to get revenge. No such film is in production to date, however.
