Biography[]
Several years prior to the events of the movie, Sofina joined the Red Wizards under the leadership of Szass Tam. When he did a coup against the thatch of Thaymount, Sofina was among the other Red Wizard that helped him, trapping everyone in a enclosed area with their forcefields so that everyone would be affected by the effects of the Beckoning Death, allowing Szass to turn everyone into undead under his control an successfully taking over Thay.
However, the Red Wizard lost possession of the Horn of Beckoning Death, which was stolen by the Harpers and put into the vault of Korinn's Keep. After discovering this, Szass sends Sofina to retrive the artifact, but to do so she needed the help of a Harper, the only ones able to enter the vault. So, he allied herself with Forge Fitzwilliam, who put her in touch with Edgin Darvis, and ex Harper turned thief after the death of his wife. Sofina enlisted their help to enter the vault, with Edgin initially refusing but being convinced by Forge to proceed since inside the valute there was the Tablet of Reawakening, and artifact able to resurrect the deceased.
The group went to the vault, managing to enter in it thanks to Edgin, but once inside they accidentally trigger the alarm which bring the guards inside the structure. Sofina cast "Time Stop", a magic able to stop time in a area, trapping Edgin and Holga, another member of th group, in the effects of the magic, while Simon, the sorcerer of the gruop, is unable to null the effects and is forced to run away. Sofina and Forge manages to get out of the vault and attempts to kill Simon since they didn't intend for him to run away, but he is able to barely escape them.
With the Horn in her possession, she moved to the next part of Szass and her's plan, going to Neverwinter and casting a spell on the lord of the city-state, Dagult Neverember, to fall sick and stay in a vegetative state while she helped Forge becoming the Lord of Neverwinter thanks to his stolen fortune. Forge successfully became the Lord of Neverwinter and went to live in the castle, taking Sofina as her chief advisor and Kira, Edgin's daughter, under his ward. Planning to use the Horn to turn the entire city into an undead army, Sofina told Forge to revive the High Sun Games which were banned by Dagult, telling the population that it was to bring the city together, but in reality it was a way to pack in as many people as possible in order to turn them all into an army of undead with the Beckoning Death.
After Edgin and Holga manages to escape the Revel's End prison two years later, the two reach Castle Never, where they meet Forge and they are shocked to discover that he is still working with Sofina, the one that caused their capture. They also find out that Forge manipulated Kira into believing his father lied, causing her to hate him. The two are than blocked by one of Sofina's spells and captured by the guards, to which Sofina orders to kill them, but they manage to defeat the soldiers and escape before being executed.
Later, Szass than sends an image of himself to Sofina to reassure her that her work is almost done, before Forge appeared to ask her to show his wealthy guests the security around the vault in which their treasures would be stored. While there, Sofina notice the shapeshifter druid Duric, a new allie of Edgin and Holga, in the form of a fly who were spying on them. The Red Wizard lead the chase against her, using her magic to detect her whenever she morfed into a different form, but the druid eventually manages to escape her. Knowing that Edgin is behind it the druid spying on them, Sofina sends the assassin Dralac to kill them, but before that she orders him to kill the guards that failed to stop Edgin and Hilda's escape, to which he slaughter them all.
The day of the High Sun Games, Edgin, Holga, Simon and Duric manages to infiltrate Castle Never, but Sofina detects their presence and acts accordingly. Holga and Simon manages to enter the vault, which however they discover being empty, and are captured by a trap spell left by Sofina, while the Red Wizard herself disguise herself as Kira to make Edgin fall in a trap. As she planned, Darvis approaches her believing her to be her daughter and telling her that he is sorry for abandoning in an attempt to resurrect his wife rather than her mother, but its at that point that Sofina throw away her disguise, laughing maniacally as she traps him with a spell. Forge than taunting him, but Edgin ask for a fighting chance in the High Sun Games, to which Sofina accept, in order for him to be turned into a undead like everyone else within the arena.
Sofina than goes to the luxury balcony place on top of the arena, her plans now coming into fruition as Forge plan to leave with the treasure of the wealthy individuals present that day. Fitzwilliam tries to tell her goodbye, but she coldly tells him to go away from her city as she prepares to use the Horn of Beckoning Death to turn everyone in the arena into an army of undead. She activates the Horn and turn the wealthy individuals in the balcony into undeads, but before the fog can engulf everyone else and turn them into her servants, everyone quickly gets out by following a trail of treasures falling from a hot-air ballon thanks to one of Simon's portals.
Enraged by the fact that her plans are now ruined since the Horn can't be used anymore for one year, Sofina attempts to kill Edgin, Holga, Duric and Simon for ruining her plans. The battle is hard fought, but the four manages to give put her in a corner, at which point Sofina uses her trump card, the time stop that she used two years prior, seemingly blocking them all and having the upper hand. Thinking she have won, she approaches Edgin, treating him to make him suffer forever for what he did, but she soon realize it was a trap as Kira, while invisible, manages to put a magic-suppression cuff on her wrist, blocking her magic while Simon tells her that this time he managed to null her magic.
Taking this chance, Duric turns into an owlbear and attacks Sofina, slamming her repeatedly on the floor and throwing her against a wall that crumbles on her, killing her. However, during the fight, she managed to stab Holga with a knife infused with the magic of the Red Wizard, which cause her to die. Thankfully, Edgin uses the Tablet of Reawakening to bring her back to life, and with her death her spell over Dagult vanishes, allowing him to wake up, bringing her plans to a complete end.
Appearence[]
Like all the other Red Wizards, she has a bald head covered in tattoos, which are in reality magical symbols. Her skin is pale, with dark dye around her eyes, while her clothing consists of a robe with a large cowl to cover her head and hide her identity as a Red Wizard. She can also change the color of the robe, making it blue or red depending if she wants to hide her status as a servant of Szass Tam or not. The look she usually have is, however, a disguise, and her real appearence is more akin to an undead, with decaying skin and black, dead eyes.
Personality[]
As a member of the Red Wizards of Thay, Sofina is described as an immensely powerful, dangerous and egotistical wizard who cares about nothing but herself and her master Szass Tam as her main goal was to transform all the citizens of Neverwinter into undead wizards and turn them into her minions. She is depicted as a ruthless, egomanical, heartless, cold-hearted, sadistic, destructive, homicidal and xenophobic person from start to finish - though this was what led to her defeat thanks to Edgin Darvis and his friends foiling her plans. Despite serving as Forge Fitzwilliam's accomplice, it turns out she valued only little about him at all due to the fact that she was planning to betray, overthrow and kill him so she can conquer Neverwinter herself.
