Solare Ostberg is a major antagonist in the Ace Combat video game series, serving as the overarching antagonist of Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War and a minor antagonist in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. He is the president of Gründer Industries who turns out to be a member of the Gray Men organization. He orchestrated the war between Osea and Yuktobania in revenge for them defeating his home country Belka.

At an unknown point in time, Solare Ostberg became the president of the Gründer Industries munitions company. Unbeknowst to the government of Osea, he was one of the high-ranking members of the Gray Men, a Belkan nationalist organization determined to avenge their country's defeat in the Belkan War. Simultaneously, the organization had plans to reunite North and South Belka, the latter having been annexed by Osea and renamed "North Osea" after the war.
The Unsung War[]
Being one of the ringleaders for the Gray Men, Ostberg played a role in kickstarting the 2010 Circum-Pacific War between Osea and Yuktobania as part of the organization's greater scheme. Despite manipulating both sides into escalating the war, he pretended to stay loyal to Osea. Simultaneously, Gründer began digging a tunnel to connect North Osea with Belka, and estabilished a control facility for the SOLG attack satellite for further use. Despite the consipators' efforts, the truth about the war eventually came out, and the countries' leaders made peace and called upon their armies to follow their example. As the coalition of Osean and Yuktobanian soldiers headed towards Gründer Industries' facility in Sudertor to put an end to Ostberg's plans, the leadership of the company called upon the remaining warmongers in both countries for assistance, promising to supply them with a V1 nuclear warhead, while keeping a much more powerful V2 warhead hidden away. Ultimately though, both the V1 weapon and the SOLG were destroyed by the Razgriz Squadron, foiling the conspirators' plans.
For his role in starting the war, Solare Ostberg was arrested and died in prison in 2011.
Trivia[]
- Despite never appearing on-screen, Ostberg is one of the most influencial Ace Combat villains, being responsible for the events of The Unsung War and, to a degree, Skies Unknown.
- Ostberg initially went unnamed, having been referred to as only "the president of Gründer". An in-universe news article released in 2020 revealed his full name almost 16 years after his debut.
