Superman: Stop this. Whatever Luthor offered you, he'll betray you. Solaris: I betray Luthor first. I will eat your sun, and replace it in the sky. Your people will pray to me, or die in the cold dark.

~ Solaris challenging Superman.
Solaris is a major antagonist of DC One Million comics, the main antagonist of All-Star Superman #11, and the overarching antagonist of the 2011 direct-to-video animated superhero eponymous film based on the All-Star Superman series. Solaris is a gigantic computer AI in the form of the sun itself and was hired by Lex Luthor in terms of getting rid of Superman for good.
In the film, he is voiced by Robin Atkins Downs, who also portrayed Manchester Black in Superman vs. The Elite.
There's not much detail to Solaris' background; however, it's stated that Solaris has been feeding on stars to consume as its own fuel and has left many inhabitant planets to die as a result. Solaris would then be soon contacted by Lex Luthor for some assistance in taking down Superman for good. However, Solaris had planned on betraying Luthor first when he turned the whole sun blue beforehand and when he was fighting Superman.
Solaris first appeared when he turned the sun red to leave Superman completely powerless before having a backup plan to counter the red light with some reinforcements from his robots in an attempt to stop Solaris. While Solaris explained his plans to consume the sun to have all of humanity pray to him or die, he destroyed all of Superman's robots, including Robot 7, when he sacrificed himself to stop it. Superman would then bring in his pet Sun-Eater to consume Solaris before it kills it in one blow effortlessly as an enraged Superman beats it down to the ground while hitting impact.
Before it was about to be finished, Solaris cowardly begged for mercy before Superman destroyed him single-handedly. However, it was not too late for Solaris to turn the sun blue behind Luthor's back, as it then led to Superman's sacrifice afterward.
Personality[]
Solaris is rather intelligent and heartless, even going as far as to have a god complex due to his history of consuming stars and destroying a number of planets, which is shown when he states to have humanity pray to him as a sign of his superiority and dominance over it.
He's also needlessly cruel and would mock other beings below him or what disgusts him most, such as calling the baby Sun-Eater an "abomination." Despite how powerful it can be, Solaris is also a coward, as he spent his last moments begging for mercy under Superman's decision before seconds later he would be destroyed.
Trivia[]
Despite being the secondary antagonist in the film, Solaris only has a few minutes of screen time and doesn't appear until near the end of the film.
