You have no idea the threat Solomon Grundy presents if they still control him.
~ Pat Dugan to Stargirl about Solomon Grundy

Cyrus Gold, also known as Solomon Grundy is a supporting character in the CW network television series Stargirl.

He was originally a member of the Injustice Society of America (ISA) until the group was disbanded following the destruction of Project New America. He is also the former archenemy, turned best friend of Rick Tyler, the second Hourman.

He was portrayed by an uncredited actor.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Solomon Grundy was born Cyrus Gold, a wealthy merchant who was murdered in the 19th century, but was reanimated fifty years later as a massive zombie with little to no intelligence. Grundy later joined the Injustice Society and took part in the attack on the Justice Society of America (JSA) at their headquarters ten years prior to the series. During the battle, Grundy chased down Starman and Stripesy which caused their rocket car to crash land.

A year later, Icicle sent Grundy to kill Rex Tyler/Hourman, the last surviving member of the JSA by slamming the front end of his car causing it to swerve into a tree. Tyler and his wife, Wendi were both killed on impact, while Grundy's involvement remained a secret. He was then locked up in a reinforced cell underneath Blue Valley by Icicle to keep Grundy detained.

Battling the New JSA[]

Grundy was released from his cell nine years later by the Gambler to help the other ISA members fight the new Justice Society of America. Grundy fights S.T.R.I.P.E. and later engages in a fierce battle with Hourman's son, Rick Tyler the latter of whom has taken up his father's mantle to seek revenge on Grundy for his parents' deaths. He is severely beaten by the young hero who ultimately chooses to let the beast live under the condition that he never comes back to Blue Valley.

Death and Resurrection[]

Several months after the disbandment of the Injustice Society, Rick discovers that Grundy has beed roaming the woods outside Blue Valley and begins leaving him food in a specific part of the forest that he was sighted in to prevent Grundy from breaking into restaurants. Grundy and Rick surprisingly became friends and he assists the new in JSA battling Eclipso, resulting in his death. After Eclipso is defeated, Grundy is buried by Rick who tries to resurrect him with help from Shade, but to no avail. He comes back to life in the series finale and presumeabley becomes an official member of the JSA.
