“ | The time has finally come...to unleash the Forbidden Spell of Zahras upon our enemies! | „ |
~ Solon |
“ | That's right. He called us beasts. Meanwhile, he refers to himself as "the Savior." Who exactly is he saving? | „ |
~ Ignatz on Solon. |
Solon, also known as Tomas or the Savior of All (self-titled) is a major antagonist of Nintendo's 2019 tactical video game Fire Emblem: Three Houses and a minor antagonist of its 2022 spin-off sequel Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.
He is a member of the Those Who Slither in the Dark, and one of Thales' confidants. Suitable for his appearance, he uses cunning schemes and tricks in order to gain what he desires. He is a highly dangerous and ruthless individual, who delusionally considers himself a savior, as he willing to commit inhumane crimes to accomplish the slithers' goal on eradicating humanity.
He was voiced by Shinya Fukumatsu in Japanese and Joe Ochman in English.
Biography[]
Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]
Solon had infiltrated the Garreg Mach Monastery under the guise of Tomas, pretending to be a faithful follower of the Church of Seiros. Tomas was the Monastery's librarian for over 40 years. Sometime after he had retired from his job, Solon killed him and assumed his identity to infiltrate the Monastery. Using his position, he was able to learn much from the books stored in the library and has intimate knowledge of the Monastery's affairs. His identity is revealed after controlling the denizens of Remire Village. Later on, he sacrifices Kronya as part of a spell that banishes Byleth into the dark world. After Byleth breaks free, he battles against the party one last time before his death.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes[]
In an alternate timeline where Shez attended the Officer's Academy, their class rescued Monica von Ochs before could be killed and replaced by Kronya. She subsequently identified Tomas as her abducter, exposing Solon and forcing him to flee.
Solon does not appear again until the Scarlet Blaze and Golden Wildfire routes, where he leads the forces of Those Who Slither in the Dark sowing chaos in Hrym and Ordelia territories. He is defeated by Shez's forces and retreats.
Solon reappears in the "The Hour of Vengeance" chapter, which can only be unlocked if Byleth was recruited. Upon seeing an Epimenides-possessed Shez attacking Byleth, Solon, despite his confusion over the events unfolding before him, orders his forces to attack. He is defeated and driven back by Shez's companions, but before he can retreat to Shambhala. Epimenides appears and uses him as a sacrifice for the dark spell of Zahras, banishing Shez, Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude to a dark world of darkness.
Other Media[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
Solon appears in Byleth's reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A similar scene happens as he casts the forbidden spell of Zahras to banish Byleth to the void, the same spell he used in a similar fashion through Kronya's sacrifice. However, there are a few differences; Sothis suggests to Byleth that they join Super Smash Bros., and when they return from the void, Solon's reaction is slightly altered, so that instead of saying "So the fell star consumes even the darkness itself!", he says, "So joining Smash consumes even the darkness itself!". After this, when Female Byleth arrives with the relics of the house leaders, he is left in speechless shock in response.
Appearance[]
Solon is a pale skinned man with light blue hair and an unsually large head. His right eye is open abnormally far, has a different color than his left eye, and has unusual markings around it.
Personality[]
As Tomas, he appeared to be a wise and kind old figure who often provides knowledge to Byleth and several students regarding any topic of history. In truth, Solon is actually a ruthless and sinister individual with a strong sense of hatred towards humanity, considering them as beasts while he believes he is a "savior" who will "save" the world from them.
Solon is unfettered in accomplishing his duties to slithers and is willing to cross any lengths to achieve it, such as committing horrible and unethical experiments on many innocents, or even betraying one of his own to kill off their enemies. Solon also seems to be loyal to Thales, although this is more of a fanatical devotion to someone who's just as ruthless as him.
