You gonna eat those Twinks?
~ Sonar's most famous quote.
Half-man, half-bat, all freak.
~ Sonar

Victor, better known by his alias Sonar, is one of the two optional secondary antagonists (alongside Coupé) of AdHoc Studio's 2025 interactive adventure video game, Dispatch.

He is a highly intelligent former villain and conman before being tasked to participate in Phoenix Program to redeem himself. However, if Robert chooses to fire him, Sonar joins Shroud in hopes of getting revenge on Robert and the Phoenix Program.

He is voiced by Charles "Charlie" White Jr., better known online as penguinz0 or MoistCr1TikaL.

Appearance[]

According to his SDN's database, Sonar is at least 6'0 with a fit build. In his bat human form, Sonar's most notable change is made to his head as it is modified after a grey bat with big ears, sharp fangs and white eyes. His usual attire includes a blue vest, dark blue pants, black polished shoe and a red tie.

In his monster form, Sonar grows significantly bigger in size. His wings expand and claws become visible. His eyes also glow red instead of the usual white. When put in the villain path his right eye gets scared following his fight with Robert and Blond Blazer. And wears a collar like augmentation

Biography[]

Not much is known about Sonar's early life or how he got his look and powers. However, what is known is the fact he is Harvard graduate, which is something Sonar is very proud of, constantly reminding everyone about it. Throughout the game, Sonar is also shown to be a fan of Willem Vanderstenk, CEO of VandCo. He is best friends with co - worker Malevola who have an ongoing friendly - flirty relationship where they help out with each others issues. Throughout the game Malevola mentions helping out with managing Sonars hybrid form better.

Episode 2[]

At the begining of the game Sonar is a member of the Z-Team, the currently worst performing team of heroes for hire employed by SDN where he works alongside his best friend Malevola as a part of the Phoneix program designed to help rehabilitate former super villians. Robert receives a run down of the Z-Team members including Sonar from Chase and Blonde Blazer who states that Sonar is a Harvard Graduate (which Chase disses for reminding everyone all the time) and is responsible for running some of the most complex investment scams, however both note that none of the Z-team are fully committed to redeeming themselves and that the program could be shut down in results don't improve.

Robert is then introduced to the Z-team as their new dispatcher, leading to all the members including Sonar to dismiss him immediately as they have a high turn - over rate of dispatchers and all the members then take bets on when Robert will quit. During the shift Sonar will beg to be dispatched to a security detail for Willem Vanderstank the CEO of VandCo who he views as a genius and wants to "pitch a few ideas he's been working on" leading to Robert either to agree to the request, or "literally sending anyone else" as the other option. Should Robert agree to Sonar's request he will be happy, whereas if Robert sends someone else Sonar will become unhappy.

During break, Sonar will be present in the staff break area preparing coffee for himself when Invisigal and Robert argue over the formers attempt to stop a robbery at Granny's Bakery which lead to the owner seriously wounded and the criminal escaping. When the argument escalates into Robert yelling at Invisigal that the event could have been prevented if she had listened and calling her a "selfish asshole" shocking both her and Sonar. Invisigal then punches Robert in the face while Sonar only asks if Robert is going to finish his food he bought from the vending machine, only to take the food when Robert agrees and does not help him off the floor.

Episode 3[]

Episode 3 has the biggest potential implication for Sonar as he will be facing "cut day" resulting in either Sonar being kept or fired from the Z-Team.

After Blonde Blazer announces to the Z-Team that the lowest performing member will be cut from the team, the Villians then begin to sabotage each other during the first shift to ensure that they are not the one being fired leading to Coupe tricking Sonar into being handcuffed to the squat rack in the company gym. Sonar will then send a dispatch signal to Robert to request help explaining that "Coup seduced me" much to the other members amusement as Coupe elaborates that she "wanted to show him something cool" before handcuffing him. Throughout the first shift Sonar sabotages several members of his team in order to avoid being cut and in turn is sabotaged by other members including using a device producing high-pitched noise and Prism organising a fake drug bust taking advantage of Sonars addiction to various drugs where he will then excuse himself to "powder his cocaine" despite Malevola trying to talk him out of it.

Robert then organizes a meeting during lunch break to confront the team about their sabotage which Sonar is present. Though the team dismisses Robert and the meeting he gains their attention by either kicking Golem or "giving him a chair" and telling them that their actions are more likely to get them fired. Sonar is mostly amused when Robert stands up for himself against Prism and giving them a motivational speech (chosen by the player) that will affect the team morale. During the second shift the team has received the message and actual co-operating with each other (this can be helped by pairing Sonar with Malevola), however due to Invisigal being able to capture a super criminal before end of shift both Sonar and Coupe are tied for last place and one of them has to be let go.

If Sonar is fired[]

If the player either chooses Sonar or let the timer run out Sonar will then be called into the meeting room where Robert informs him that he is being let go. Sonar will then get angry and transform into his Hybrid form and unleash a sonic screech in Roberts face leading him to tell Sonar that security will come if he continues. Despite being angry Sonar attempts to leave via the meeting door only to find they are automatically locked, this results in Sonar cussing out Robert one last time, flipping him the middle finger and smashing through the glass wall. This is seen by Coupe in the background who only coldly walks away afterward.

If Coupe is fired[]

If the player chooses Coupe then she is lead to the meeting room and let go from the team. Coupe will lash out at Robert for the decision and threatens him by throwing one of her daggers at him and leave by breaking the glass wall with her abilities before gliding away with Sonar will be shown in the background having been eavesdropping on the conversation. The game will notify the player that Sonar has appreciated this decision.

Episode 4[]

Depending on the decision made in the previous episode one of two things will happen:

If Sonar was fired[]

Robert will then begin his shift only to find that Sonar had left a very loud message for him on the computer which is heard by all the office including Flambe, Punch Up and Malevola who are standing nearby. Flambe and Punch Up will find it funny but Malevola will be angry with Robert and will actually leave part way during the first shift.

If Coupe was fired[]

Robert will begin his shift only to find that the members of the Z - Team had pranked his computer through loud pop - up ads for adult sites and rigged the printer to print out multiple copies of a hand drawn image. Members of the Z - Team will be standing by to watch this happen in retaliation for firing Coupe and Punch Up will leave during the first shift.

Sonar will by happy to still be employed and will actually be more chatty including mentioning that the shift is a lot harder thanks to "someone being firing Coup" much to the team's general mood that no - one should have been fired. The team is then addressed by Blonde Blazer during the second shift that either that either the over enthusiastic but generally pathetic Water Boy or Phenomaman who is going through post - breakup depression (after Blazer had dumped him) as a replacement for the missing member. Predictably the team are highly unimpressed with this decision as both choices are generally disliked and both have their negative aspects with Water Boy being an over enthusiastic rookie and Phenomaman being too depressed and will actually leave mid-shift.

Episode 5[]

During the shift Robert learns that the team have a betting pool going for which super hero he used to be before becoming their dispatcher leading them to invite Robert for drinks after work at a known supervillain bar downtown. Robert goes and socializes with the team through buying them drinks. When he hands Sonar a drink, the conman will take the opportunity to properly thank Robert for keeping him on the team. Eventually the team starts a bar fight leading everyone to attack each other and Robert being dragged into the bathroom to be attacked by a villain using a fire breath. Sonar will be seen taking drugs and in a drug induced transformation and will save Robert from the Villain should the player fail the quick time events.

The team then regroup outside of a Mexican fast food restaurant nursing their wounds where they take the opportunity to ask Robert who he really is. The player can then choose to tell them he is "simply Robert" and has effectively been retired from being a super hero leading to everyone introducing themselves revealing that Sonar's first name is actually Victor and leading them to bond over the nights events. However should Robert reveal that he is Mecha-Man the team will be shocked as he is considered to be a "real hero" but Flambe who had previously fought Mecha-Man (and lost two fingers) will try to attack him using Pyrokinesis only to be saved by Golem and either Malevola or Water Boy who douse his flames. Flambe will then angrily depart leading Invisigal to break the tension by introducing herself leading the others to to the same before bonding over the nights events.

Personality[]

Sonar's most notable characteristic is his undeniable deadpan expression and monotone voice. This could be a characterization for his primarily aloof attitude towards everyone or anything in general, making himself looks reasonable and professional at the same time. However, because of this, Sonar also finds it hard to say thank you in a genuine way. Additionally to his monotone voice, Sonar isn't an individual capable of understanding what's funny since he kept on saying Robert's full name when Robert made fun of the name Sonar.

However, Sonar still has his flaws as he is known to be an addict who uses multiple control substances, according to his database. His weakness also includes his cockiness as shown in his dialogue if he were to complete a request and how he constantly brags about his background as a Harvard graduate.

Powers and Abilities[]

Bat Physiology: Sonar possesses a hybrid appearance between a man and a bat in his default state.

Transformation: Additional to his bat human look, Sonar can grow into a bigger and more monstrous form. In this form, Sonar has enhanced strength and agility in exchange of his intellect being replaced with feral instincts. Depending on the situation Sonar can still communicate properly while in this state, but is more likely to give into heightened aggression and anger.

Superhuman physical capabilities: Due to his Bat Physiology he has Superhuman Capabilities being able to go toe to toe with Blonde Blazer and Mecha Man pretty comfortably, Flying faster then a airplane, and not showing fatigue during the fight with Robert and Mandy.

Flight: In his monster form, Sonar possesses the ability to fly at a high pace as well as the ability to carry a person on his back during flight.

Sonar: True to his name, Sonar possesses the ability to listen to the echoes surrounding him like a regular bat.

Genius level Intelligence: Sonar is a highly intelligent person who was responsible for carrying out "some of the most complex investment scams". He is very knowledgeable about business trends, the stock markets and various scams used by other con-artists.He is also often said to be the smartest on Z team with his starting stats having his intelligence the highest out of the rest of the group while in his humanoid form.

Trivia[]

  • He's best friends with Malevola. If these two were to dispatched together, their synergy increases.
  • According to his red flags, Sonar is a "crypto bro" and implied to have rabies, which is a common thing that bats usually carry but not always fatal.
  • Ironically, his voice actor, Charles White Jr. owns a commentary channel where he exposes and often makes fun of scams and schemes, crimes that Sonar himself committed.
  • Sonar could possibly be a homage to Man-Bat from DC Comics, a mutated villain and enemy of Batman with similar traits on terms of appearance and abilities.
