This childhood issues was only exasperated by his father’s abuse, leading him unable to get the proper help and causing him to become more and more mentally ill as time goes on.

When adopted into the family of the pig farmers, JinHyeok genuinely loves them, espiedally Jinu, however, due to his parental issues, sparks jealously over Jinu over their father’s affection and starts becoming paranoid. This culminated in JinHyeok Murdering Jinu in a fit of rage, and trying to replace him in their lives. His care for his adopted family and deep regret over their deaths he thinks he caused, leads him to completely detaching himself and forgetting them, trying his hardest to erase their minds. After he is disowned by his adopted father, JinHyeok’s psychotic tendency continues, slaughtering people including his girlfriend and classmates over believing they are insulting him. In order to shield guilt away from himself, he fabricates his victims as pigs, due to them witnessing him killing Jinu and morphing them into deranged and psychotic maniacs to justify himself.

It’s revealed that JinHyeok, despite his constant suppression, ultimately feels awful for his crimes, and can’t stop remembering his adopted family, so much so he accidentally kills another family due to them being remotely similar to his adopted one. After his comatose, JinHyeok fabricated an entire reality in his head of him being stranded at sea and hunted down by the family he murdered (behaving in exaggerated portrayals of his adopted family and the other family) due to his devout hatred of his actions, having him killed hundreds of times while harassed by the “ghosts” (in reality, simply his conscious) for what he did, having himself be murdered and revived in his head as justice against himself.

When he is confronted by Taehee Jin, in truth his adopted father having transferred himself into his consciousness, and learns about everything, Jin-Hyeok feels true remorse for his actions, confronting his memories of his past victims and finally breaking away from them, while acknowledging that the real victims will never forgive them.
