Sonny Elliman is a supporting antagonist of Stephen King’s 1979 novel The Dead Zone, and a major antagonist of its 1983 film adaptation of the same name.
He was the leader of a biker gang called the Devil's Dozen, but in the film, he is Greg Stillson’s right-handed man.
Sonny was the leader of Devil’s Dozen a biker gang, presumably on bad terms with the politicians, but was working on the campaign. However, he gets blackmailed by politician Greg Stillson and gets removed from his gang.
Film[]
In the movie, Sonny is instead portrayed as Greg Stillson’s right-handed man.
At the rally where Stillson is about to announce his plans to start his run for President, Sarah Bracknell and her husband and baby were also there, where Johnny appears with a rifle and attempts to shoot Stillson, but misses. When attempting to shoot again, Stillson then grabs Sarah’s baby and holds him as a human shield, which a photographer captures on film. Before Johnny can fire again, Sonny appears and shoots at Johnny, who then falls off the balcony. Stillson confronts a dying Johnny, who upon touching his arm, sees that Stillson will commit suicide, when the photo of his abhorrent act is published. Stillson then angrily confronts Sonny about the photographer capturing his child endangering and orders him to find and kill the photographer and destroy the evidence, but Sonny coldly denies this, leading to Stillson cutting ties with him and storms off. Sonny would then take a brief stare at Johnny before leaving the abandoned rally.
Trivia[]
It's implied that Sonny had helped the photographer get away at the end of the movie as after Stillson holds Sarah’s baby as a human shield, preventing Johnny from assassinating him, Sonny appears rather disgusted by Stillson’s actions and refused to do any more of his dirty work.
