Hey! Get away from me! Get away from me! Get away! Get away!
~ Talia confronting Agent 11 before the latter rips off one of his gonads off-screen.
Talia: Gino, I know you all my life.
Gino: Yeah.
Talia: We grew up on the same block. Your mother babysat me, she changed my diapers. Your sister's married to my goombah. And I personally will shove you headfirst into an incinerator...
Gino: Huh?
Talia: ...and burn you to a crisp if you screw this one up on me again!
~ Talia threatening Gino on the phone.
She never made the airport. And let me tell you something. If you don't get that dog, you're gonna make the airport, but as part of a runway!
~ Talia threatening both Gino and Arliss on the phone.
I'm gonna catch you in the yard. We're gonna settle this man to man!
~ Talia's last words as he threatens an inmate in a higher voice for mocking him earlier.

Sonny Talia is the main antagonist of the 2001 comedy movie, See Spot Run. He is the Italian mafia leader of a gang of mobsters and thugs operating in Seattle, namely, Gino and Arliss. He is known for smuggling drugs, owning a few dance clubs and possibly a restaurant, and works part-time as a legitimate businessman with a valid bill of lading for the importation and exportation of goods as part of his cover to evade the FBI, specializing in coffee, paint, computer chips, and lawn chairs mostly.

He was portrayed by the late Paul Sorvino, who also portrayed Paul Cicero in Goodfellas, Lord Capulet in William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Dominico Scarpa in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Alphonse Perrier du von Scheck in Hey Arnold! The Movie, Lips Manlis in Dick Tracy, Rotti Largo in Repo! The Genetic Opera, and the Serial Assgrabber in The Cleveland Show.

Personality[]

As a mob boss, Sonny Talia can be very intimidating, mean, strict, cruel, and sarcastic. Beneath his businesslike exterior, Talia can be impatient and easily offended/insulted when someone refers to him as "Music Man" after having lost both of his gonads to Agent 11/Spot. He can be very temperamental when his thugs mess up big time, going so far as to threaten mainly Gino despite his past relationship and history with him if both he and Arliss fail to kill Agent 11/Spot for him again.

Biography[]

For years, Sonny Talia has been known for smuggling drugs in Seattle. However, his part-time occupation as a businessman with a valid bill of lading for the importation and exportation of goods as part of his cover has allowed him to avoid arrest from the law, mainly the FBI, specializing in coffee, paint, computer chips, and lawn chairs mostly. Unfortunately, during the last 3 years of his life, Talia had lost 22 million dollars due to the constant interference of the FBI's top canine bullmastiff agent known as Agent 11.

One night, at what appears to be a deal exchange with other gangsters at his warehouse, Talia and his men suddenly find themselves surrounded by FBI agents led by Agent Cassavettes and Agent Murdoch. When lawn chairs are all that's found in the warehouse and Talia shows his bill of lading as proof, Talia tries to sweet-talk a disappointed Cassavettes into joining him as one of his dancing girls at one of his dance joints, but the latter rebuffs his attempts and has Murdoch send in Agent 11 to search for anything that just might implicate Talia. Given his history with Agent 11, Talia gives him a sinister snare and growl as the latter eventually finds drugs stashed within paint cans. However, one of Talia's thugs manages to distract everyone by hijacking a forklift and trapping everyone while Talia makes a run for it. Unfortunately for him, Talia finds himself pursued by Agent 11 whom he tries to shoot in vain, only for the canine to bite and literally rip off one of his gonads off-screen before getting arrested, leaving him moaning in pain afterwards.

Luckily for him, after undergoing an operation to replace his missing gonad with a metal ball at the hospital, Talia is free to go since, according to his lawyer, his valid bill of lading for the importation and exportation of goods has made the prosecution have nothing on him and the government can't prove prior knowledge or possession. Nevertheless, Talia is more concerned about Agent 11 due to not only having lost 22 million dollars within the past 3 years because of the latter's interference, but also losing one of his gonads now, therefore, vowing personal vengeance on the canine agent. So, Talia decides to spread the word on the street about putting a hit out on Agent 11 while sending two of his goons: Gino Vacco and Arliss Donato to do the job for him even though they find the idea amusing and ridiculous and threatening to whack them if they don't get the job done right.

Despite the assistance of a dirty, crooked Witness Protection Program agent named Agent Sharp whom Talia secretly bribed and sent a message to Agent 11: "Play dead." through her, Gino and Arliss prove incompetent after the first two attempts on Agent 11's life have failed as Agent 11 escapes and finds refuge with a mailman named Gordon Smith and the young son of his attractive neighbor, James McGuire whom he's babysitting while his mother, Stephanie is temporarily away on business. Then, Talia calls up Gino while having lunch with some dames at his restaurant and is upset to learn that they've failed, so, he doesn't hesitate to threaten to personally shove mainly Gino headfirst into an incinerator and burn him to a crisp if they fail again despite Talia's past relationship and history with Gino since they both grew up on the same block together, the latter's mother babysat and changed his diapers, and the latter's sister being married to his goombah.

As days pass by, Talia grows more impatient. When talking to Gino on the phone again at his restaurant, Talia is not easily fooled by Gino's false claims about Agent Sharp having escaped to Belize and once again threatens to make both of his thugs part of an airport runway if they fail again; given how their latest attempt at a pet store went awkward with the assistance of both Gordon and James as well. Eventually, having grown tired and fed up, Talia takes a wild guess and figures his men would mess up again, so, he decides to take matters into his own hands and finish the job himself. In doing so, he captures Murdoch and holds both Gordon and James hostage at Gordon's apartment while they wait for Agent 11, now going by the name of Spot. After disposing of a dog attacking Arliss' back when both Gino and Arliss enter the apartment as well after another run-in with the occupants, Talia demands to know where the dog is until finally, he comes face-to-face with his main target. After Spot removes the gun from Talia's hand, Talia gets electrocuted when introducing his recovered gun to Spot's former electric shock collar; thanks to Gordon using his T.V. remote against him. Once again, Spot pushes Talia out through the window as he bites and rips off the latter's last gonad off-screen before getting arrested by the FBI as he moans in pain again.

Later, having been prosecuted at long last and after undergoing another operation at the hospital, Talia's metal balls clack together as he walks to his cell, accompanied by a security guard, which prompts an inmate to mock and refer to him as "Music Man". Upset, insulted, and offended, Talia threatens, in a higher voice, to settle a score with the inmate man to man in the yard later on before resuming walking to his cell with the guard.

Trivia[]

  • Having been seen at a restaurant a few times in the movie, it is possible that Sonny Talia also owns and works part-time there as another part of his cover as well.
