~ Arthur One, speaking on Sora Siruha during the War of Nanasu. |
Sora Siruha, also known as Zora, is the main antagonist of the manga series Choujin X. The hero who defended her homeland of Yamato from the War Choujin, Queem, Zora is willing to go to any lengths if it means protecting Yamato's future, including mass murder.
Appearance[]
Zora's appearance was originally that of a beautiful young woman's. After years of overexterting her powers, however, she's become locked in chaos state, giving her a distorted and bizarre appearance.
Personality[]
In her youth, Sora was a deeply kindhearted and devout woman who put the safety of her people above all else, which lead to her developing something of a savior complex. As time as gone on and Sora's sanity degraded from overusing her powers, she grew increasingly irrational, which wasn't helped by her constantly being hooked on opium. By the time of the story, Zora has practically become a shell of her former self. While her desire to protect Yamato is entirely genuine, she's become so blinded by her savior complex that she isn't willing to question whether or not her prophecies are even true, killing hundreds if not thousands of people in a desire to find a successor to her powers. She's also shown to be greatly enraged by anyone questioning her actions, a trait which she may have picked up by Mado ousting Yamato Mori from her. When Ely Otta protests Zora's actions, pointing to the large bodycount she's amassed, Zora decides that Ely needs to die. Later on when Chandra Hume, one of her most loyal followers, protests her decision to attempt to bestow her powers en masse to her followers (which killed all of them in the process), Zora denounced him as a rebel and attempted to kill him.
Biography[]
Background[]
Originally a nun for the Church during the Great Choujin War, at sixteen years of age Sora was taking part in a funeral procession mourning soldiers killed on the battlefield. However, Queem Macman intercepted the procession. Having a burning hatred for the clergy and seemingly monotheistic religion as a whole, Queem slaughtered everyone in the procession. However, Sora resurrected from the dead, as she in truth had the aptitude to become a choujin.
Sora then founded an organization known as Yamato Mori for the sake of protecting the land of Yamato from Queem's invasion. Sora quickly became absurdly powerful on the battlefield, being a choujin of such great strength that she was identified as the Choujin X of her generation. Queem, who at the time had been locked in a statemate with Antitise, the choujin prince of Antoland, wanted opiods for his choujin soldiers who were suffering from absurd pain from all the raises they were forced to perform in the battles against Antitise. Yamato had an abundance of poppy fields, and as such Queem attempted to conquer the prefecture for its resources.
However, Queem eventually found himself face to face against Sora Siruha on the battlefield. Queem, another Choujin X, found that Sora's powers vastly surpassed his own. Queem fought against Sora for four years, but to no avail. Although he repeatedly attempted to invade Yamato, Sora Siruha defeated him each and every time. Eventually, Queem attempted to conquer Antoland one more time. This time, however Sora Siruha and Antitise formed an alliance against Queem. With their combined might, the two of them managed to bring Queem to his knees, allowing Antitise to finish him off and end the tyrant's onslaught for good.
Following the Great Choujin War, Yamato Mori continued to be a major peacekeeping force in the land of Yamato and protected the people from any dangerous choujin. As a result, Yamato became far more peaceful than the neighboring prefectures, sustaining a far less relative degree of damage. During this period of peace and recovery, Sora took Tsukiko Mado in as her pupil. Sora saw that the girl had an abundance of untapped potential, yet she was tormented daily by nightmares of her prophecies. Sora taught the girl self-control, eventually allowing her to achieve peace of mind. Mado, likewise, was deeply proud of Sora, viewing the choujin as her personal hero.
Two years later, Sora Siruha received a deeply troubling vision. She foresaw that Antitise, her old friend and comrade in arms, would become a tyrant and bring ruin to Yamato. Sora spent the next two years gathering an army, and then invaded Antoland. Sora Siruha left Mado in charge of Yamato Mori in her absence. Mado, however, was troubled by horrific visions of the tyrant that Sora would become. She received nightmares of Sora committing atrocities against innocent civilians in Antoland. As Mado was a child with no power at Yamato Mori, she was incapable of stopping Sora.
In 1944, Yamato Mori defeated Antoland, at which point Sora personally executed Antitise via beheading. It's indicated that Antitise's last words to his former comrade were "Pitiful Sora. Read the Bible to your dog." Despite what Sora had done to him and his country, Antitise could see that, at her core, she was simply a lost and pitiful individual.
In 1945, the vision that Mado saw became a reality. Sora received a vision that a pro-Antitise faction would rise up in Antoland and lead a rebel army against her, and so Sora decided to slaughter them first. She spearheaded a purge of Antoland's population for 3 years, determined to snuff out even the faintest traces of Antitise's bloodline. In those 3 years, Yamato Mori would massacre 200,000 people. The casualties were so immense that eventually not even mass graves were enough to contain the bodies, and so they instead left the bodies abandoned around towns. Sora Siruha, assured in the knowledge that she had saved Yamato from war, returned to her homeland. When she returned, however, she found that there was a growing faction in Yamato Mori that doubted Sora's interpretation of her prophecies. Rather than Sora stopping the events in the prophecies, more people began to believe that Sora was the cause of the very tragedies that she foresaw.
In 1955, Sora Siruha received a prophecy heralding of a great calamity that would destroy Yamato before spreading to wreak havoc throughout the outside world. Mado, however, saw something very different. Mado saw Sora and the thousands of innocent people killed by her delusions. It's indicated that Mado was deeply conflicted about turning against Sora, as she's shown crying in a flashback as Sora tries and fails to persuade Mado over to her side, but Mado had lost all faith in her former hero and instead chose to stand up for what she believed was right. Tensions between these two eventually reached a breaking point, and Yamato Mori was divided into two factions--one following Mado and another following Sora. Mado's faction won out in the end. Sora was exiled to Omega Tower, and her followers later became known as the "Tower of Mourning." Mado's faction continued to carry the label of "Yamato Mori."
Sora Siruha, cast out by the very people she wanted so badly to protect, decayed into a shell of her former self. Sora became increasingly irrational, and her body, which was now so strained from decades of constant fighting, began to warp and mutate. After years of excessive raises, Sora was forced into a permanent chaos state--a state of madness experienced by choujin. Her body was now giving out from old age and strain, and so Sora turned to opium for the sake of keeping herself alive.
The names "Sora" and "Zora" are both used in-story to refer to Sora Siruha. In general, however, "Sora" and "Zora" are used to refer to her before and after her exile respectively. As such, Sora Siruha will be referred to as "Zora" from this point on.
Synposis[]
Zora, still determined to stop the calamity, needed to find an heir to bestow her powers onto. She sent her disciples out to awaken those with aptitude in the hopes of finding a suitable beast of prophecy. The exact ways they sought to do this varied, but they generally tended to carry out terrorist attacks on airplanes in the hopes that a suitable choujin would awaken. One day, a Nue Chimera wearing a Noh Mask offered to create a drug known as XEMBER using Zora's own blood. According to Noh Mask's theories, XEMBER should hypothetically be able to awaken those with aptitude and allow them to become choujin. Noh Mask's theory proved to be a massive success. Eventually the disciples of the Tower found the disciple they had been looking for: Tokio Kurohara.
Eventually, Noh Mask managed to capture Tokio Kurohara, alongside his friends Azuma Higashi and Ely Otta, and brought them before Zora. Zora then explains her past and the visions of the dark calamity which she foresaw. She explains to Tokio that she wants him to be her sucessor and asks him to agree to inherit her powers. Azuma is convinced by Zora's arguments, and tells Tokio that he should take her up on her offer. Ely Otta, however, points out the large mountain of corpses in Zora's chamber. Tokio isn't the first person who Zora attempted to give her powers to, and as such there's no guarantee that Tokio would survive if he attempted to inherit Zora's powers. Tokio, however, comes to the conclusion that Azuma and Ely both make valid points and decides to talk things over with the rest of Yamato Mori before coming to a decision.
Zora, however, was not willing to negotiate on the matter and decided to give her powers to Tokio by force. She, alongside Batista Hoshi, then chased the three of them throughout Omega Tower. Eventually, Tokio grabbed the others and attempted to fly out of the the tower, but Zora froze them in mid-air using her gravity manipulation powers and used her iron manipulation powers to trap them in iron cages. Batista, who had an interest in Ely's and Azuma's powers, asked Zora if he could kill them himself and take their body parts. Zora agreed that Batista could kill Azuma, but she found Ely's powers as a thief choujin to be a possible obstacle for the prophecy, and determined that Ely's powers needed to end with her. Zora then manipulated the bars on Ely's cage to crush her to death. Azuma attempted to use his own iron manipulation to buy Ely time, but to no avail. The sight of his friend about to die was so distressing for Tokio that he was forced into chaos state, breaking out of the cage with his anti-choujin harpes and attacking Zora directly. Even in his chaos state, however, Tokio posed no threat to Zora and she effortlessly defeated him by attacking him with her own harpe. Azuma, meanwhile, had pushed himself to his limit trying to hold off Zora from killing Ely, and was helpless as his friend was about to be crushed to death.
Just then, Sandek Hoshi from Yamato Mori intercepted them and attacked Zora with a powerful move of his own. Batista, determined to one-up his brother, attacked him with several new abilities he had acquired. Sandek, not willing to take any chances, used his gravity manipulation to send Batista flying for miles. Sandek managed to save the three teenagers and sent them back down to the ground. However, he was no match for Zora, and quickly found himself at his limit against her. However, Sandek was contacted by the other members of Yamato Mori, who were all assembling to take on Zora as a team. Yamato Mori then engaged in a difficult battle against Zora, even losing the life of a member. However, they managed to do enough damage to Zora that she was forced to return to Omega Tower.
Following the battle, Zora would continue looking for an heir to her powers, becoming even more desperate as her time to stop the calamity grew shorter and shorter. Eventually, Zora attempted to bestow her powers to her followers en masse, killing all of them. When Chandra protested her actions, Zora declared him a renegade and attempted to kill him, although he narrowly managed to escape.
