My mother died young, and then my father and grandmother fell in with a cult, so things were a bit weird. They threw out our household Shinto shrine and Buddhist altar, and they went to this place called Tashiro Pass in the Ouu Mountains a number of times... Our house became a place for believers to gather, and people spread rumors about it at school. They tried to make me join, and I really didn’t want to, so I tried to stay away from the house as much as possible.

You’re a cursed woman. A seed of calamity. You take after your mother—
~ Sorawo's Grandmother as the Kudan's voice, long before Sorawo shoots her.

Sorawo Kamikoshi's Grandmother and Father, also later known as the Kudan (lit. Cow Woman), are the overarching antagonists of the Otherside Picnic franchise.

They are the unnamed relatives and archenemies of Sorawo Kamikoshi, particularly her grandmother and her father, who were involved in joining an unnamed religious cult in the past during her high school years, shortly after her mother's death. This led her to be chased out, as the cult that her grandmother and her father were in pursued her from one abandoned building to another. With the rest of the cultists died from gas poisoning, her grandmother and father were also killed.

Despite being posthumous at the start of the light novel, their past actions were directly responsible for Sorawo's cynical, distrusting personality in the present-time, and in Volume 4 of the Light Novel they manifested as the Otherside Entity known as the Kudan (Cow Woman), with its face being her dead father and its voice being her dead grandmother.

Personality[]

While not much is fully known about their personalities, they are revealed to be abusive and heartless towards Sorawo in the past, moments after the passing of Sorawo's mother, as mentioned by Sorawo as to how both of them with their cult chased her out, in an attempt for them to forcibly join her.

Biography[]

Past[]

Sometime after Sorawo's mother died from an accident, they both later joined an unknown religious cult, leading to both of them and their followers to discard the family's Shinto shrine and the Buddhist altar, before they were revealed to be visiting the meeting place: the Tashiro Pass within the Ouu Mountains. Both Sorawo's grandmother and father and the rest of the cultists would use their family residence as a meeting ground, as means for them to persuade Sorawo into joining with them, forcing her to be chased out by her grandmother, father, and the rest of them through several buildings, in an attempt to avoid them. In one instance, the grandmother also attempted to drug Sorawo into making her join.

At an unknown time, both Sorawo's grandmother and father were revealed to be dead from gas poisoning within the meeting ground that both them and their cult used as a meeting area via a kerosene, putting an end to their terror, once and for all, towards Sorawo.

Events of Otherside Picnic[]

While they are mostly dead at the start of the series, both of them are mentioned by Sorawo in many instances, regarding her past encounters with them and the cult that she was being forced to join their cult.

In Volume 4, both Sorawo and Toriko later encountered the Kudan, a cow-like Otherside Entity based on the net lore that predated back during the Edo Period, which later had features that were similar to her deceased father and her grandmother: the Entity's face being based on the former and the Entity's voice being being the latter. After a rather horrifying encounter with the Entity, both Sorawo and Toriko eliminated the Entity, thus stopping both of their ghosts permanently.
