Souhei Tatsumi is one of two main antagonists of the Detective Conan/Case Closed episode Alibi Testimony Murder Case (The Missing Melody in the dub). Souhei is a well-known lawyer with many large corporations as clients, However his action as a Lawyer would expose him as a villain.
He made his first appearance when he invited Kogoro, Conan and Ran to his office at a luxury hotel., where he called room service to offer then a drink. After he went to the bathroom, He took the phone from Conan, who got the call from young wife Kazumi Tatsumi. After telling Conan and Ran to go to the tea lobby and order anything they want, he tells Kogoro that he wants him to spy on his wife, thinking that her faithfulness towards him is in question, which he took the case.
He later appeared again in the parking garage as he put something in the back of his car and left, He then appears again in his home, where he learned that his wife has been killed by Strangulation, along with being tied up and her mouth covered. When asked where he was, Kogoro vouched for him as the time of her murder took place at the time where He, Conan and Ran were at the hotel meeting with Mr. Tastumi, as he revealed that he was in a meeting and afterwards, he came home to find his wife dead.
With his wife dead, a funeral was held, where a young man was seen yelling at Souhei, where it was revealed that this name is named Shunzou Hirose, who was Kazumi's lover as he was accused of killing her due to their secret affair, which he claims that he and her were planning to get married as soon as she divorces Souhei, who claimed that he was unaware until Hirose explained that Kazumi told her. When asked where he at the time of the murder was, he said he was given a note to meet her at 2:30 to her home but when he arrived, he rang the doorbell but nothing. While seeing the Paper, Megure thinks this note could be an alibi for him but Kogoro dismissed it, stating that he made this note himself in order to create a false alibi and told Megure to arrest Hirose (as it assumed that he was still mad that he lost a big case and the money).
However, before Hirose was taken away, Conan knocked out Kogoro, and using his bowtie, he revealed that the true killer is Souhei Tatsumi himself and that he killed her in the hotel, not their home. Conan explains that Kazumi was in the guest room next to his office, he went to see her after his meeting with Kogoro and strangled her with his hands. Then using a laundry basket, Souhei placed her lifeless body in and put her body in a laundry back and shove it to the bottom of the laundry room, where he took her corpse and placed into in the bathroom to make it took like she was killed there.
While Souhei laughed at the wild accusation, stating that his alibi of the day of the murder is solid, Conan revealed a single one piece of evidence, revealing it to be a tape of the day she called him in his office, where a closer expectation revealed that a music box was placed in the background of the guest room and that one note was missing, exposing Souhei as the killer. With his solid alibi officially crumbled, Souhei revealed his motive of killing Kazumi.
Turns out that Kazumi was blackmailing him into giving her 200 million yens when she learned of his corrupt deeds as a lawyer such as privy corporate secrets from the corporations he works for or receiving large amount of money for his fee, which some were illegal. A flashback was then shown that 200 million yen she would have gotten would be considered divorce compensation when she divorces him and marry Hirose. Not wanting to lose to her and lose his money, he came up with the idea of her calling him in the guest room at a specific time, which she agreed on, not knowing that he would killer her afterwards. Before being arrest, Souhei said that being a lawyer is like gambling and that he NEVER once lost a gamble until he now.
