The Soul-Eating Monster is a minor antagonist and a boss in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
History[]
In Kid Icarus: Uprising, Dark Pit travels to the City of Souls in the Underworld to find the Rewind Spring. This was in order to revive Pit after his wings burned up from saving Dark Pit from the Chaos Kin. On the way, he learns that the souls of the people who die come to the city if the Reapers can’t carry them to the Underworld. Some of these souls fade and others are eaten.
After a while, he encounters the exact monster that eats them, prompting a boss battle. Viridi and Dark Pit agreed that it was hideous but Hades found him adorable. He also talked about souls don’t have personalities and can be molded into other forms. Hades wanted to get Dark Pit’s soul saying that the monster eating it would be a waste. If Dark Pit doesn’t defeat the monster in time, it loses interest and floats away. After that, Palutena realizes that Hades molding souls is how he creates all his monsters without the Mirror of Truth.
Trivia[]
- Even if Dark Pit successfully defeats the monster early, Viridi and Hades will still talk as if it's still there.
- According to the monster’s Idol description, its diet is like a whale eating plankton. However, his teeth are so strong, they can allow him to eat even live beings.
- Although the Idol refers to the Soul-Eating Monster as an "it," Viridi uses "himself," and Hades remarks, "I find him quite adorable actually," implying the creature is male.
- While the Soul-Eating Monster resides in the Underworld, its AR card claims it has no official affiliation. Nonetheless, the presence of purple arrows over its weak points—typically linked to the Underworld Army—suggests otherwise. This inconsistency was likely just a mistake in the AR card’s design.
