Soul Grinders are massive daemon engines, used by the Chaos Daemons as their rough analogue to a main battle tank. A daemon engine is a diabolic fusion of daemon and war machine fuelled by dark malevolence and it's own irrepressible desire to destroy. The daemonic portion of the Soul Grinder is attached to the top of the chassis, its great head and muscular arms towering over most other daemonic creatures while it's lower mechanical portion is composed of six piston-driven mechanical Warp-metal legs, each covered with blades and blasphemous Chaotic iconography.

They are capable of withstanding immense levels of punishment, their thick hulls further protected by the supernatural energies of the warp. Only the most potent of anti-tank weaponry is capable of doing any real harm to them. Being demonic in nature they're even capable of appearing out of thin air where they're least expected, such as in the middle of an enemy line, causing mass panic and confusion.

Soul Grinders have been known to deeply devote themselves to certain Chaos Gods, but it's unknown if they receive any extra abilities or benefits.

They are said to originate from a place inside the Warp dimension called the Forge of Souls which is located in the Formless Wastes. The Forge of Souls is notorious for creating all manner of unholy weapons, artifacts, and other creations primarily used by daemons. It is known to be an independent place that pledges no allegiance to any of the Chaos Gods and the Greater Daemon Vashtorr is it's ruler. Only higher-ranked daemons have the privilege to be fused to a mechanical construct in order to become a Soul Grinder.

  • Iron Claw: A massive piston-driven claw that is capable of crushing tanks with ease and (thanks to the daemons inhuman strength) rip through even the toughest of armor. With one fell sweep it can turn entire squads of infantry into a bloody pulp.
  • Warpsword/claw: This is a massive ever-shifting daemon blade made out of pure warp energy that is capable of ripping apart infantry and vehicles alike with contemptuous ease. Worse yet there is no known material that has been able to withstand the strikes of this dreaded blade. This weapon can alternatively also take the form of a claw.
  • Harvester Cannon: A large, multi-barreled, rapid-firing weapon that fires large calibre solid shells capable of tearing through infantry formations and destroying light vehicles with ease. It can alternatively also fire specialized flakk shells to engage enemy aircraft with acceptable accuracy. These cannons are typically wrist-mounted on the daemon's arms and can supposedly never run out of ammunition.
  • Bale Gaze: Some Soul Grinders have developed the ability to fire powerful bolts of pure warp energy from one of their eyes, vaporizing infantry and turning vehicles inside-out.
  • Searing Tongue: A few Soul Grinders have also been documented to be able to use their whip-like tongues to lash out like searing energy rays,  capable of cutting vehicles in half.
  • Soul Grinder Mawcannon: Soul Grinders have been able to use their mouths to spit out huge torrents of burning warpfire capable of engulfing entire structures in blazing ethereal energy.
