Soundwave is the Secondary Antagonist of the 2023 ongoing comic series Transformers. Initially introduced as a loyal lieutenant of Megatron, Soundwave ascended to the leadership of the Decepticons after usurping Starscream due to his incompetence and betrayal, leaving a power vacuum before assuming leadership of the Decepticons
Biography[]
Before his arrival on Earth, Soundwave fought alongside the Decepticons, later taking part in the assault onboard the Nemesis when they pursuing the Ark.
Soundwave, alongside many Decepticons, was rebuilt once Jetfire unearthed the ship, immediately opening fire on Optimus Prime before deploying Ravage to assist Starscream against the latter. Once Optimus had retreated, Soundwave deployed Laserbeak in search of energy sources before disagreeing with Starscream on his leadership of the Decepticons and insisting that Megatron would've improved the situation, before Starscream silenced the latter.
Once the Decepticons took refuge in a mountainous area, Soundwave called for a meeting among the Decepticons, pushing for the resignation of Starscream as the acting Decepticon leader due to his incompetence and how his plans failed miserably. The meeting culminates in a battle as Starscream begs for mercy while Soundwave continues to beat him. After Lasterbeak ripped out Starscream’s eye, Starscream once again tried to beg mercy, only for Soundwave to disembowel the latter for kicking Ravage before throwing him off a kick. With Starscream defeated, Soundwave assumes the leadership of the Decepticons, and the others cheered for the new leader.
Becoming a more methodical leader than the violent Starscream, Soundwave's first act as Decepticon leader was to establish new bases of operations for the Decepticons. The first move by striking the Aircraft Carrier 'Henry Harrison' alongside his new lieutenant Thundercracker. While Thundercracker wanted to spare the humans and allow them to abandon the ship, Soundwave reinforces the goal by pointing out the consequences of allowing witnesses to the attack, resulting in the destruction of any lifeboats on the carrier.
