Spanglers are minor enemies appearing in the Super Mario Galaxy duology. They are seemingly related to Spoings, and possibly related to Tarantox. They are spider-like animals that will attempt to attack the player and cause them damage.
History[]
Super Mario Galaxy[]
Spanglers are first encountered in Ghostly Galaxy, where they hang from raised surfaces. They will gently swing toward Mario/Luigi, ultimately making contact with the player and causing damage. They will increase their momentum and therefore their distance whilst they hang. They are defeated by spin attacking them to stun them. Approaching their stunned bodies sees Mario/Luigi kick them, killing them. They later appear in Sea Slide Galaxy and Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada.
Super Mario Galaxy 2[]
Spanglers return in the second instalment with identical moves, appearing in Yoshi Star Galaxy and Tall Trunk Galaxy.
Physical appearance[]
Spanglers are darker than Spoings, appearing slightly purple rather than brown. They have orange sacs at their rears which presumbably are used to spin webs. They maintain the bioluminescent eyes seen in Spoings.
