“ | Also... there's somethin' I shoulda told you. It's about Cursa's ringleaders - the Spark Hunters. They came to me before you got here. They said if I didn't hand over all the Sparks here, they'd "shred everyone into pizza topping" - my phrase, not theirs. | „ |
~ Augie's warning to the Heroes about the Spark Hunters |
The Spark Hunters are the secondary antagonists of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope an organization that was founded after Cursa took control of Rosalina and their mission granted to by Cursa was to seek out the Sparks that escaped her grasp after Rosalina allowed them to escape.
Biography[]
Even though Cursa was successful in taking possession of Rosalina, the Lumas and Rabbids merged together to become Sparks and were already flung far away for their safety. Cursa creates and assembles the Spark Hunters to hunt down the Sparks. Edge was given a free will to lead the Spark Hunters and to serve its evil ambitions, but eventually, the Rabbid leader saw just how maliciously cruel it was and came to despise how the Sparks were suffering and has attempted to lead the Spark Hunters to the light. It does not go well, as they were loyal to Cursa and instead betrayed her, causing Edge to permanently leave the group in order to save the Sparks before they got their hands on them and ends up joining Mario's group. In response to Edge's treason, Cursa creates Kanya, who also has free will, to take her place as the leader, but unbeknownst to it, Kanya also turned against it and heads to Melodic Gardens where she prepares to overthrow her creator and rule the galaxy. On most of the planets, the Spark Hunters are encountered and fought as bosses at the conclusion of these arcs. According to Edge at the end of the game, the Spark Hunters may have left to find a new profession, but it is currently unknown if they have redeemed themselves or not.
Members[]
Edge[]
Edge was originally the level-headed leader of the Spark Hunters and unlike the rest of them, she was granted a free will, so to accommodate for the role ahead of her. However, she witnessed just how monstrous her creator was and grew to despise the role of kidnapping Sparks and watching them suffer, and attempted to help the Spark Hunters see the light, only for them to turn on her, which resulted in her leaving the Spark Hunters forever and later teams up with Mario and his friends, but she keeps her origins hidden away from them, believing that she would lose trust.
Midnite[]
- Main article: Midnite
Midnite is the mischievous ghost-like Rabbid who appears at Winter Palace in Pristine Peaks. She has trapped Rabbid Rosalina within her realm and she does not hold anything back in battle. When she isn't acting villainous, she is one of the more friendlier Spark Hunters within the group and she was genuinely happy to see Edge again since she left them. At worst, she was shown to be hypocritical when she accuses Edge of leaving them, when in reality she and the rest of the Spark Hunters betrayed and hurt her. After being defeated, Edge spares her life to show she still cares for her, and she left and was even more remorseful and horrified when she watches Cursa drain the energy of the Sparks that Daphne (whom she is jealous of) successfully captured.
Bedrock[]
- Main article: Bedrock
Bedrock is a brutish rock Rabbid who appears at the town of Palette Prime. She was causing a lot of damage around town and would end up getting into a fight with Bowser. She never speaks so her personality isn't well-known, but she is known to be easily distracted when she saw Edge smirking at her, which gives Bowser the advantage by headbutting her. She is also shown to be gullible when the team tricks her into falling into explosive ground which contributed to her defeat. Like Midnite, she is also remorseful and seems to worry about the consequences of failure when she returns to Cursa's stronghold without any Sparks to hand over and is horrified to see Cursa absorb the Sparks' energy and being annoyed at Daphne for having more success.
Daphne[]
- Main article: Daphne (Mario + Rabbids)
Daphne is a plant-like Rabbid who appears at Barrendale Mesa. She is known for being the most devious and the sneakiest Spark Hunter who uses dirty tactics to lure her victims into her traps. She is considered to be the nastiest of the Spark Hunters and fares much better at collecting the Sparks than her fellow members, as she has not yet encountered the heroes yet, and is the only one who is watching in excitement as the Sparks were drained of energy. She also disguises herself as Momma to trap the heroes in the Darkmess Dimension, though they end up defeating her which led to the revelation of Rosalina's fate.
Kanya[]
- Main article: Kanya
Kanya was intended to be the leader in Edge's place, following her treachery, but since she has a free will, she too left Cursa, but rather than turning to the side of good, she instead stays evil and heads to Melodic Gardens where she causes the harmonious planet to fall silent and endanger its existence. She imprisoned Dorrie and has trapped several inhabitants. She is the only Spark Hunter, Edge does not recognize, nor does she have any friendship with. She is only found in The Last Spark Hunter DLC.
