You don't understand. We mean you no harm. We seek peaceful coexistence!
~ The Spawnmother to Riker and Picard

The Spawnmother is the primary antagonist of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Conspiracy".

History

A Neural Parasite, the Spawnmother led the infiltration of the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet in 2364.

In 2364 the Spawnmother created a large number of parasites to take over the Federation. She came to inhabit the body of Lt. Commander Dexter Remmick, directing the Starfleet Admirals and other officers that were under her control.

After Captain Picard and Commander Riker learned about the parasites, they shot several of the infested personnel at Starfleet Command with phasers set to kill, and the parasites left their bodies. Picard and Riker confronted Remmick in a map room, and watched as he willingly swallowed the parasite.

Riker and Picard fired their phasers at Remmick, with Riker blowing Remmick's head off with his phaser. The Spawnmother then burned her way through what was left of Remmick's torso, revealing herself to Picard and Riker. The two officers fired their phasers at the creature, vaporizing her. With her death, the parasites all died, releasing their victims.

The Spawnmother that took over the Bajoran leader Shakaar Edon in the 2370s learned of this Spawnmother's failure and swore that she would succeed where this Spawnmother had failed.
