“ | Eee hee hee! And to think I got the star without even soiling my hands! I'm such a genius, it scares me sometimes. No wonder I'm so important! | „ |
~ Yaridovich |
Yaridovich, renamed Speardovich in the remake, is a major antagonist in the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its 3D remake. He's a spear robot created by Smithy and serves as a commander of the Smithy Gang.
Biography[]
When Mario enters Seaside Town, he is approached by a bunch of blue Toads (if he enters the shop and buys stuff). They tell Mario to talk to the Elder due to him needing help. Once Mario visits the Elder, he explains that he's in need of the fifth Star Piece.
Once Mario does said request and returns, the Elder will be waiting and reveal that he's actually Speardovich, a member of the Smithy Gang. He tells Mario that his research of stars has worried Smithy, then blackmails him into giving up the star. A rejection will cause Speardovich to send one of his clones to tickle the real Elder, and sarcastically feel ashamed of the old man's torture. Mario can only agree to give him the star, after which Speardovich will immediately run away with his clones in await of Blade's arrival.
However, Blade does not appear. Speardovich attempts to swim away, only to be stopped by Johnny, who blocks his path. With no way out, Speardovich assumes his true form and attacks Mario and the rest of the party in an attempt to destroy them all. Once he is defeated, Mario obtains the fifth Star Piece, as well as the key to the shed where Seaside Town's inhabitants were imprisoned.
Later in Smithy's factory, Mario and the rest of the gang will face the Speardovich's machine made clones who are up to Player's choice shall they fight them.
Like the other characters (even the dead ones), Speardovich appeared in the parade during the credits (which was merely a way of showing the characters in the game, and should not be considered canon). He was then struck by Smithy's hammer along with Claymorton and Bowyer.
Physical Appearance[]
Speardovich is a large and slender spear monster. He has shiny silver plates as well as a rounded hollow base that acts as his midsection. In terms of immediate design, he resembles a Japanese warrior, wearing a dark scarlet cloak with horn-shaped pauldrons, as well as matching gloves and wells on his boots. His large head features a constant sinister yellow-eyed expression as well as having his thematic razor sharp spear tip crowning his forehead. He also has a long, neatly groomed handlebar mustache and tied back ponytail both the same scarlet tone as his gloves. For his means of attack, he of course wields a long spear sporting a scarlet wrap just below the head. When impersonating the Seaside Town residents, his clones adopt an uncanny (albeit ominous and grim) likeness of them.
Personality[]
Speardovich is a deceptive and cruel robotic beast who seems to thrive on tricking others into doing his work. As shown by him impersonating the Seaside Town residents (including the Elder), he is also rather manipulative, able to trick Mario’s party into retrieving the Blue Star for him. On the other hand, when faced with danger and/or confrontation, he proves himself to be an underhanded coward prone to not engage in battle by preference. Upon revealing his true nature to Mario and co., he also shows himself to be rather sadistic, ordering his other clones to torture the Elder if they refuse to give him the Star, thus further proving his cruelty.
