Specimen 7, also known as the Wall, is a minor antagonist in the 2014 indie video game Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion. It is a shapeshifting entity linked to pain and trauma, and it lurks past the walls of Room 410 in order to find and kill those who wander too far in the mansion's many corridors.
Appearance[]
“ | Knowing your shadow can greatly help you, but be ready to see what you'd rather not be. | „ |
~ The White Cat right before facing Specimen 7. |
Specimen 7, from the perspective of the player takes the form of a massive, slowly moving wall of red corpses and skeletons, ever shifting and moving within its own confines, stated to be its most "common" form. Due to its CAT-DOS entry stating that it changes forms depending on the pasts of its victims, whether or not the wall is Specimen 7's true form is unknown.
In the HD remaster of the game, Specimen 7 is now tilted slightly, with its base jutting out.
Biography[]
Past[]
Specimen 7's past, including how it was formed and how GL Labs found it is unknown. It's possible that Specimen 7 was created within the mansion itself, being a collection of either the bodies or souls of previous subjects, all fused into one entity. Through unknown methods, 93 people have fallen to Specimen 7, and has been observed to be effective against those with known mental issues.
Original[]
Before getting in contact with Specimen 7 in Room 410, a white kitten appears speaking towards the player giving the player a warning of what will face them. Once the player escaped room 410, the wall starts chasing the player. As the chase goes on, legs, runes, and evil faces appear on the other walls, which are made in the player's head from Specimen 7 as it chases the player. If the player touches Specimen 7, they will die instantly and possibly become a part of its mass.
HD Renovation Mode[]
Specimen 7's storyline has been massively overhauled. When starting, the player must run through a wall, breaking it down to be able to continue the game. Then a giant room is seen with a huge clock in the middle, with various doors. The player must pick one of the doors which would lead the player to the normal layout of rooms, in which Specimen 7 may start chasing the player. In the end, a door can be opened which would lead the player to a dark in the room, in which Specimen 7 would officially start chasing.
Spooky's Dollhouse[]
Although it doesn't appear in the DLC, it can be implied that when the Mansion blew up the souls that were fused together to create Specimen 7 separated from each other and found peace in the Afterlife with all of the other souls.

Trivia[]
- It is based on Giygas from the game EarthBound, which is also used for A-60 from Rooms.
- Coincidentally, Giygas' original and less hostile form was vaguely cat-like in appearance, with Specimen 7's room being shared with the White Cat, a connected entity that tries to helps the player to deal with Specimen 7.
- Contrary to popular belief and as stated in an interview with Akuma Kira, Specimen 7 is not a reference to the Wall of Flesh from Terraria. That being said, both are massive walls that have the potential to instantly kill the player (albeit in specific circumstances in Terraria).
- In that same interview, the location itself has been stated to take some inspiration from games like Yume Nikki and American McGee's Alice, both of which are surreal horror games with themes of mental illness.
- In the HD version, Specimen 7 is the only Specimen to not have a death screen.
- Alongside Specimen 13, Specimen 7 never chases the player again after they previously outrun it. This is still true in Endless Mode, where Specimen 13 gained the ability to have multiple chases.
- While very rare, it is possible for other Specimens to appear during Specimen 7's chase.
- While Specimen 7 and the White Cat that appears during its locale are linked, it's unknown how exactly they're related. Theories have stated that the cat is either the "good" half of Specimen 7 or a therapist trying to help the player through Specimen 7, which is representative of trauma.
- The dialogue that the White Cat provides is heavily indicative of Analytical psychology, coined by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung. The main concepts that Specimen 7 utilizes are "the Persona" (what a person shows themselves as to the outside world) and "the Shadow" (the parts of a person that one does not wish to acknowledge).
- Originally, the room counter would not progress for the entirety of Specimen 7's chase, leading to the belief that all of Specimen 7's encounter took place in the player's head, a thought further exemplified with both the themes of psychology and Specimen 7's CAT-DOS entry stating that it changes for each person.
- This was later edited out in a patch, but the start of Room 410 has the player crossing over a line labeled "Threshold of Consciousness", making the idea that Specimen 7 is more mental than physical all the more likely.
