Spencer Galloway is the overarching antagonist in the fourth season of the horror anthology series Slasher, titled Flesh and Blood.
An eccentric millionaire, Spencer is the beloved patriarch of the Galloway family, dedicated to the shipping business. He is also a complete psychopath that tends to run dangerous family games in which only the "strongest" will become winners, taking out those he deems weak. Although he stopped with this competition after the kidnapping of his grandson Vincent, Spencer revives it one last time after realizing he'll lose his fight against cancer. The winner takes his entire fortune, and the losers will be taken out one by one by a mysterious masked figure hired by him, this time forever.
Despite being deceased since the first episode, Spencer remained as the most important antagonist of the season by appearing in flashbacks and pre-recorded messages.
He was portrayed by the acclaimed director David Cronenberg, who also played Dr. Decker in Nightbreed.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Spencer is a powerful millionaire that runs a company dedicated to the shipping business. At one point of his life, he married a woman named Annette and had two sons with her, Seamus and Florence. Spencer had extremist elitist beliefs about the Galloway's killer personality, in which only the strong ones are a matter of importance in the world. He raised his children based on this, and also his grandchildren.
To test which Galloway should be deemed as the strongest, Spencer created a series of competitions and games with dangerous elements that could result in permanent injuries. These games stopped after his grandson Vincent (son of Florence) got kidnapped in one of them by mysterious masked men that arrived to his island.
At one point, Annette died of cancer, which resulted on Spencer marrying her nurse, Grace (in reality, she was the one who killed Annette). Many years later, Spencer notices that he is dying of cancer as well. He needs a heir, but he realizes none of the members of his family have lived to his expectations.
Spencer revives his family competition one last time, in which the winner will take his entire business, properties and fortune. Fearing a painful death like Annette had, Spencer hires end-of-life specialist Dr. Persephone Trinh to carry out an assisted suicide while leaving her with the responsibility of overseeing the games. Secretly, Trinh was also an assassin hired by him to take out the "weaklings" of his family, those who lost any of his games while leaving only the winner alive.
