Spencer Middleton is a supporting antagonist in Tales from the Gas Station. He appears as a minor antagonist in Tales from the Gas Station: Volume One and Tales from the Gas Station: Volume Two and as a minor character in Tales from the Gas Station: Volume Three.
He is shown to work for other much more powerful beings, but still manages to cross paths with protagonist Jack Townsend, whom Spencer has developed a hatred for.
Biography[]
Spencer Middleton started out working for The Dark God, protecting the multiple Kieffer clones as they've been getting killed. Attempting to secure the gas station, the main protagonist (Jack Townsend) kills Spencer, almost cutting his head off. A while later however, the dark god has brought Spencer back to life, letting him slip away.
In the second novel, Spencer continues to call Jack at the gas station, taunting him. He eventually brings Jack and another previous employee (Vanessa Riggin) outside the gas station, kills Vanessa and almost gets away before being arrested. He is killed in an attempt to escape custody later on. However, near the end of the book, Spencer is some how alive, beaten up and left outside of the gas station during a freak snow storm. Jack, Deputy Amelia O'Brien and other employees Jerry Pascal and Rosa Vasquez, subdue Spencer, the latter attempting to turn all of them on each other. During a struggle later on with a shapeshifter, Spencer escapes the gas station. Later on after that, Spencer comes back, subdues Jack and brings him outside the gas station, cutting his finger off. Working for a new boss, Spencer kidnaps the shapeshifter, dragging her away from the gas station.
In the third novel, Spencer appears numerous times but only as a hallucination for Jack. Spencer only appears once near the end of the book, injuring the glow worm monster and loading it onto a truck for take away. He is also seen talking with his new boss, "The Collector", (Jack is watching all of this from far away). After the collector leaves, Spencer turns and winks at Jack, telling the protagonist he knew he was watching the whole time.

- Spencer Middleton is the only recurring enemy to be in all three books.
- It's highly speculated (in universe) that Spencer Middleton was responsible for killing neighborhood pets and causing a fire at his house when he was younger.
- In the first book, Spencer is killed by Benjamin, but at the end of the second one, it's confirmed Jack was the one who actually killed him.
- Despite Jack always implying that Spencer is a mass killer, Spencer has only killed one person in the entire series (Vanessa Riggin).
