Sphere Doomers (Sphere Lowpers in the Japanese and Korean versions) are recurring antagonists in the Kirby franchise. They serve as the secondary antagonists of Kirby's Return to Dream Land and its 2023 Nintendo Switch remake Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

They are elemental creatures who are members of the Doomers from Another Dimension who stole energy spheres from the Lor Starcutter. They are accessed using super abilities to find a portal to Another Dimension by Kirby. They are led by Grand Doomer.

History[]

Kirby's Return to Dream Land/Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[]

Sphere Doomers appear as early as the first level of the game. In world 1, normal Sphere Doomers are fought. Normal Sphere Doomers shoot out powerful balls that can hurt Kirby. Defeating Sphere Doomers award Kirby energy spheres.

In world 2, and new variant of Sphere Doomers, Fire Doomers, are fought. They can create fire balls and even shoot themselves at Kirby. Fire Doomers are fought throughout world 3, too.

In world 4, a new variant, Spark Doomers, are fought. They can create electricity to shoot at Kirby, and create electric balls that explode after a short period of time. Spark Doomers are fought throughout world 5, too.

In world 6, the last variant of Sphere Doomers, Ice Doomers, are fought. Ice balls spin around Ice Doomers as they try to shoot them at Kirby. Ice Doomers can also create ice by causing tiny explosions. Ice Doomers are fought throughout world 7, too.

In the extra mode, Sphere Doomers appear in their EX form. They have a notable appearance, having a spike on top of their head and one eye. They have enhanced attacks as well as a new attack where the create a portal/black hole that can suck in Kirby.

Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler[]

Main article: Rampaging Doomers

A counterpart to Sphere Doomers, Rampaging Doomers, are fought in Magolor Epilogue. They can drop gas clouds whenever they attack. They are also summoned by Crowned Doomer.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[]

While the Sphere Doomers do not appear themselves in the game, the Holo Defense API creates two holographic "Holo-Doomers" in its fight, with one being a normal Doomer and the other a fire variant. Holo Defense API 2.0's fight features the Holo-Doomers in their EX form.

Kirby Clash Duology[]

Main article: Greater Doomer

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and its Switch remake, Super Kirby Clash, a larger and stronger variant of Sphere Doomers named the Greater Doomer is fought.

Quotes[]

Why does this dimension suddenly feel so dark and murky? Is it because you entered from Halcandra? There are a lot more Doomers here too...and some are even pairing up and working as a team!
~ Sphere Doomers' Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 description in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.
The portal into this different dimension was opened by a Super Ability. With this space closing as time passes, one single spot holding the spheres now remains...along with a Doomer circling above!
~ Sphere Doomers EX's description in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.
Halcandra stands alone, only reachable by passing through other dimensions... The Doomers, long ago, had a different form and could warp space and time... Is that why they seek the spheres?
~ Sphere Doomers EX's Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 description in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.
A hologram of monsters nested in another dimension. The original Doomers were red and blue. They love to eat Energy Spheres, which contain ancient technology.
~ The Holo-Doomers' pause description in Kirby: Planet Robobot, referring to the original Sphere Doomers. Note how it inaccurately states that the Doomers were also blue.

Trivia[]

  • World 7-3 features a battle against two Sphere Doomers instead of one.
  • Each variant of Sphere Doomers gets more and more feathers, which coordinates to their strength and difficulty.
  • The Sphere Doomers are the only mid-boss in Kirby's Return to Dream Land to have pause descriptions.
  • Their EX pause description when fought in Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 heavily implies that they had different forms and could warp time and space, and were likely seeking out the Energy Spheres to regain those powers.
  • Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 implies that the Sphere Doomers mostly reside near Halcandra.
  • The Holo-Doomer's pause description in Kirby: Planet Robobot states that the Doomers were also blue. This is inaccurate, as there are no blue Sphere Doomers seen in the series.
