This article is about Spider-Man of Earth-616. If you are looking for other incarnations, see here.
Peter Benjamin Parker of Earth-616 is a protagonist in the Marvel Comics Universe who assumes the role of superhero Spider-Man. After being stabbed by Kraven the Hunter with a mystical spear holding the sins of Green Goblin, Spider-Man was transformed into a maniacal supervillain with mannerisms similar to Green Goblin.
Spider-Man obsessed over terrorising those who wronged him, committing evil deeds and proved to be as wicked as the Green Goblin himself. Peter was stabbed again with the spear to cure himself of Norman's sins, freeing him of the Green Goblin's evil.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the Goblin Sin-possessed Peter used the infamous Winkler Device to embed a piece of his evil infected mind inside himself, later to be reactivated again. When this time came around, Peter would receive a Spider-Man/Green Goblin Hybrid suit and became Spider-Goblin, a new Goblin supervillain. He was dispatched to the Sinister Six to take them down. He fought his foes with brutality and sadism. After a battle of will, Peter eliminated the Green Goblin's evil for good and reclaimed full control over his mind and body.
Biography[]
After getting bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter gained arachnid abilities and originally plans to use his newfound powers for tricks, planning to become a star. But after failing to stop a thief that would kill his Uncle Ben, Peter would become a web-slinging vigilante, devoting his life to protecting New York from criminals.
Getting infected by the sins[]
Queen Goblin and Kraven the Hunter plotted to give back Norman Osborn his sins to turn him back into the Green Goblin, but Spider-Man came in the way and was stabbed instead, which was met with deranged cackling. At first, Peter didn’t know why he kept the sins, but deep down he knew the truth. He could finally give up the title as “The Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” and give into his vengeful thoughts. As Peter began to embrace this evil, he remembers how Kraven buried him alive for a week. Spider-Man opened his closet, and grabbed a fabric black suit, and started a hunt on those who had wronged him, embracing villainy.
Spider-Man cackled maniacally as he hunted down Kraven, burying him alive like he did, leaving a hunting rifle with Kraven in case he wanted to end things earlier.
After burying Kraven, Spider-Man used the Winkler Device and embedded a piece of his evil-infected mind so if things went awry and the Green Goblin was purged from Peter's body, someone would have to utter an activation phrase which would brainwash Peter into becoming evil again and resume his chaos.
He then targeted Tombstone, who was in the hospital recovering from a shooting, unplugged his ventilator and quickly escaped, laughing evilly in the darkness. Spider-Man then shifted his focus on Mary Jane and her boyfriend, Paul. Trying to hunt them down, Norman tried to reason with Peter but the Green Goblin personality set inside of him instead told to leave him, that they had other pressing matters to attend to, both Spider-Man and Green Goblin began to evilly laugh, and Peter finally understands why Norman did everything he did, saying how he enjoyed hurting those who hurt him. And the thought of testing MJ's new Jackpot powers and throwing Paul off a bridge, it just makes him smile. He runs off cackling, leaving the damaged Norman.
When Spider-Man finally found MJ and Paul, Queen Goblin appeared and stated that his evil is not his. But he simply swings her out of the way. He prepares to get MJ, but Queen Goblin comes back, saying that if he won’t give up the sins, she will rip them out of his throat. MJ uses her power to get her away, stating that no one is killing Peter Parker. But Spider-Man doesn’t care for it, saying it’s too late to make a romantic gesture, as he grabs Paul and dangles him in the air, preparing to drop him. Norman unearthed Kraven to make things right and save Peter. After Kraven distracts Peter, Norman comes in and impales Peter with the spear, freeing the latter from Green Goblin's sins and bringing them back home.
Becoming Spider-Goblin[]
When Norman became Green Goblin again, Peter and Green Goblin engaged in a brutal fight. After neutralising Green Goblin's powers, Green Goblin reveals the activation code that would be used to reactivate Peter's evil side.
"Doctor Jekyll was heckled by Peter's pride, so he fed the boy to Mr. Hyde."
At first Spider-Man was confused, before being met with extreme pain. He demanded to know what Green Goblin did to him, before he started to chuckle. This chuckle intensified into evil laughter as he began to rip off the lower end of his mask to reveal his villainous grin, much to Green Goblin’s sadistic delight. Peter gave into the Winkler Device programming and re-activating the evil villain that he became all those months ago, now donning the title of “Spider-Goblin”, a whole new Goblin.
Norman sent the new Spider-Goblin to the Sinister Six, with a new Spider-Man/Green Goblin hybrid suit to take them down brutally and reclaim the mystical spear.
Norman gave the Sinister Six a call, maliciously warning them of what was to come, they then heard maniacal laughing in the distance. They questioned if it was the Green Goblin, but Kraven, already having gone through this, knew what it was. Spider-Goblin flew in on his newly acquired Spider-Glider, cackling maniacally. Doctor Octopus demanded what Norman did to him, but he was simply more interested in what he would do to him. He then proceeded to shoot at his nano fluid before knocking him out. Vulture attempted to attack but Spider-Goblin rammed him into a wall. When Electro tried zapping him, Spider-Goblin came and put on a patch that unlocked his full potential, so when Sandman attempted to attack, it immobilised both of them. The Avengers arrived but Spider-Goblin quickly dismissed them, targeting Mysterio, sadistically beating him with a metal rod, cackling. Kraven then attempted to re-purify Peter, assuming he had been infected with Norman’s sins again but much to his shock, they were safe at home. Spider-Goblin then grabs his head and prepares to crush it, he begins to monologue, explaining that his mind had been corrupted and wishes that he could see all the laughter in his brain.
Before he could finish him off, Chasm quickly arrived, knowing that he was brainwashed, and dashes into battle. Meanwhile, Norman was preparing the transfer of his assets to Peter, but Kamala Khan interrupted, as she came over to investigate if the Green Goblin had returned.
Ben reveals to Peter that he was inside the Winkler Device and saw what the Green Goblin brainwashed him with, and was going to end it, on way or the other. Peter dismisses this, and doesn’t believe Ben can save him. He gets on his Glider and rushes Ben, mocking him, telling him to save him. Peter begins to slash Ben with the spear, recounting how he tried to steal his life, while the latter urged Peter to fight it. Spider-Goblin starts to try and crush Ben, stating that Spider-Man has been buried in so much hate that no one will find him. But as he tries to continue, he starts getting overwhelmed by psycho-reactive goo from Ben’s mask. This seals the Winkler Device‘s programming and restores Spider-Man’s form.
Spider-Man rushes to the labs, but almost gets repossessed by the device’s programming.
The Final Battle[]
Peter began modifying the spear with parts from the Winkler Device to send it's programming back to the source, Norman Osborn. While Norman was fighting Miss Marvel, Spider-Man appeared, ready for a re-match. The Goblin had the upper-hand at first. Spider-Man impales Norman with the spear, but the Green Goblin instead uses this to transfer his sins into Peter, and with the Winkler Device's programming, it gives the Goblin full control over Peter's body. The Goblin then wakes up Norman, stating that he has a new home now. Norman, severely wounded, urges the Goblin to leave Peter alone, but he rebukes this. Goblin has already begun transferring everything to Peter, and looks forward to the bad things he will do with Peter.
The Green Goblin states he enjoyed his time with Norman but he turned out weak in the end. He finally beat Spider-Man, and in turn, became Spider-Man.
As he stretches to get used to his new host, The Green Goblin mocked Norman, saying he should've reaccepted his evil self, because the former would've never become so addicted to Peter's good nature, and being able to twist it into something evil. The Goblin also cites that Peter is smarter. Norman hearing this, agrees, and activates a switch and stabs Peter, causing the Goblin to leave Peter. But the Winkler Device's programming kicks in, making Peter cackle as he hits the spear against the wall, making the sins go back to Norman. The Green Goblin, inside Norman, states that he wanted Peter, and it was always him who was destined to be his host.
The Green Goblin then maliciously states that he is done with Norman, and it takes one signature to turn everything that belongs to Norman, to Peter, and that without the Goblin, he is nothing. But Norman refutes, stating that the Goblin didn't make him, but he made the Goblin. Saying this, Norman gets the spear and slashes Peter, urging him to run.
The Goblin throws a punch, dropping Peter to the ground. The Walking Brain is there, and says that it knows who Peter is, saying that it's the data it holds dear, it then instructs Peter to take the sins. Peter does so, and Norman puts the Winker Device (that the Walking Brain is attached to) onto Peter, trapping the Goblin in Peter's mindscape.
Ultimately, Peter's light overwhelms the Green Goblin, destroying the programming and the Goblin for Good.
Personality[]
Normally, Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a heroic, benevolent person who owns the motto "With great power, comes great responsibility". After selfishly failing to stop a robber (who would end up killing his Uncle Ben), this would be the defining moment that made Peter Parker one of history's most iconic superheroes.
But after getting the sins of Norman Osborn, Spider-Man embraced his evil and converted into a malicious, psychopathic, deranged and one of the most dangerous supervillains on the planet who put his moral ground aside to get revenge on those who had wronged him. With the evil of Green Goblin, Spider-Man adopted his mindset and most his mannerisms, such as maniacal cackling, extreme wickedness, an unnerving smile, deep sadism, and somewhat dated references (such as his Winkler activation phrase referencing Dr Jeckyll and Hyde) .
In this form, Spider-Man was shown to be a very capable villain. He enjoyed torturing and brutalising his victims, taunting them at every turn, such as giving Kraven a gun, in case he wanted to end it early and give in to his suicidal thoughts. Peter became addicted to the evil he had given into, feeling intense satisfaction of hurting those who had hurt him. His villainous thoughts got in the way of his logical thinking, as he quickly dismissed Queen Goblin, Paul and MJ's pitiful glances, saying how he hated them. His evil grew so intense that Spider-Man was going to recreate one of Green Goblin’s most villainous deed, killing Paul like how the Goblin killed Gwen Stacy.
Spider-Man had become so villainous and addicted to his evil, he went as far to brainwash himself with the Winkler Device so if he was purged of the sins, someone would have to utter an activation phrase which would cause Peter to feel a surging pain before bursting into maniacal laughter, converting back into a malevolent supervillain.
After the Green Goblin reactivated Peter’s evil side, instead of just being a corrupted Spider-Man, he took it a step further and instead became a whole new Goblin supervillain, Spider-Goblin. He appeared to be a minion to Green Goblin, receiving a whole new suit and followed a set of instructions, such as brutalising the Sinister Six and retrieving the spear. Spider-Goblin seemed to be a whole clone/fusion of the infamous villain, with Peter Parker’s abilities and gimmick, along with the Goblin’s wickedness and brutality. Instead of fighting villains with fairness and mercy, Spider-Goblin, like Peter corrupted with the sins, was now at a higher level, fighting sadistically and mercilessly.
When the Green Goblin’s sins went back into Peter a second time, the Goblin’s personality re-emerged, and with the Winkler Device’s programming, fully brought the Green Goblin’s consciousness into Peter’s body. He planned to do malicious deeds in Peter’s body and corrupt his soul into something dark and evil.
Overall, Spider-Man becoming a Goblin/Goblin-influenced supervillain was one of the most terrifying things to become of the web-slinging superhero.

Combined with his spider-powers and abilities, he can move at amazing speeds throughout the urban chasms of Manhattan. It is unknown how fast but it's fast enough to keep up with trains and cars on the road (and depending on traffic can move faster than them).
Weapons and Technology[]
- Web Shooters: Spider-Man's only main trademark weapon. The web shooters are high-speeded and pressured devices that allows him to shoot spider-webs by web-shooting out a web fluid that in contact with air, creates a super-strong thread that is tougher than Kevlar, more elastic than rubber, and 5 times stronger than high-tensile steel, and can usually contain anyone (even these who have superhuman strength or are extremely heavy). The Web-Shooters can shoot a thread of web several hundred meters in a straight line (can have a longer range if a factor in arching). They are made of high-density plastics and have multiple rotating cartridges that are filled with enough web fluid for him to use for several days before having to refill them (he usually carries spare cartridges in his belt). Spider-Man can also use his web-shooters to web-swinging at high speed by traveling across the city, he can also use his web to shoot at his enemies like a web-bullets, create nets, a shield, a giant web, a cocoon, or just a wide sticky spray. The webbing is last for 1–3 hours before it evaporates. The webbing itself is shear-thinning, meaning that while it is tough and strong it can be cut rather easily. Also because the Web-Shooters originally needed air to form the web, they were not able to work in a vacuum and were less effective in a little or no air environment such as space, or underwater until Peter improved them. Having a genius intellect he can modify his webbings to give it special properties, such as making acid webbing or electromagnetic webbing however these are expensive and are only used in special situations.
As Spider-Goblin[]
- Spider-Glider: After being converted into a Goblin, Norman gave Peter his own fitting glider to seal the deal as a new Goblin.
- Pumpkin Bombs: Although only shown in covers and promotional material, it can be assumed that Spider-Goblin had access to the Goblin’s signature pumpkin-shaped bombs.
Appearance[]
After embracing his newfound evil, Spider-Man dons a fabric black suit to represent his turn to villainy, under the mask would be a menacing smile and glowing red eyes.
After reactivating his dark side and becoming Spider-Goblin, Peter received a Green Goblin suit with the Spider-Man emblem. black webbing, and black accents around the arms and legs and a Goblin mask. The suit also features pointed fingers, paired with a fitting Spider-Glider to seal his identity as a new Goblin villain.
When the Green Goblin dominated Spider-Man, he would wear his mask with his mouth exposed, most likely to expose his evil grin.
