Peter Benjamin Parker, formerly known as Spider-Man and later called Patient Zero, is the main antagonist of the Marvel Universe Vs. subseries of Marvel Comics.

After the Punisher accidentally released Survivor 118, a cannibalistic infection, Spider-Man became the first known victim to succumb to its effects.

Biography[]

After the Punisher had a shoot out with the Red Mafia and an extremist group, he accidentally unleashed Survivor 118—a chemical engineered to help humans adapt to post-apocalyptic conditions—Spider-Man was the first to exhibit symptoms. The change manifested during a hockey game, where he shockingly devoured the Rhino. Shortly after, the Fantastic Four intervened, restraining Spider-Man and placing him in a containment cell for study. Reed Richards assembled a team of scientists to investigate the sudden change in Spider-Man's behavior. They quickly discovered that he had been infected with a virus that rewrote his DNA, turning him more predatory and instilling a craving for human flesh. Before long, the virus that afflicted Spider-Man began to spread around New York City and eventually reaching other parts of the world.

Ben Grimm eventually fell victim to the plague and released Spider-Man from captivity, though his motives for doing so remain unclear. Once free, Spider-Man clashed briefly with Wolverine and the Punisher before disappearing into the chaos of the city. As the infection spread, society crumbled, with heroes and villains alike transforming into cannibalistic predators. In the end, the Punisher was left as the last man standing, waging a battle against the infected.

A brutal turf war broke out among the emerging tribes of cannibals, fueled in part by the King of Death’s schemes to reduce their numbers. Spider-Man, now known as Patient Zero, emerged as the most dominant, claiming Manhattan as the territory for his tribe, while rival groups scattered to establish control elsewhere. The King of Death, however, consolidated his power by destroying rival tribes and absorbing their members into his own forces. With this growing army, he invaded Manhattan to challenge Patient Zero for control. In the process, he slaughtered many of Patient Zero's followers and captured his mate, Mary Jane. Desperate to save her, Patient Zero sought out the Punisher, offering him a deal: in exchange for killing the King of Death and rescuing Mary Jane, he would provide the Punisher with information about hidden survivors and vow to leave them unharmed.

Initially reluctant, Frank Castle eventually agreed to the deal and set out to fulfill his part, accompanied by members of Patient Zero's tribe, including Deadpool, Black Widow, and Scorpion. Despite facing significant challenges, the Punisher emerged victorious and successfully rescued Mary Jane, returning her to Patient Zero. However, as Patient Zero celebrated her safe return, Frank ended the alliance by shooting him in the head.
