The Spider is a minor antagonist in the 2019 role-playing video game Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, serving as the game's first boss. It is a giant spider that inhabits the Snakemouth Den, responsible for deaths of the many explorers who traveled in there to claim the first artifact required to obtain the Everlasting Sapling.

Biography[]

The Spider lived in Snakemouth Den for many moons, making the cave its personal hunting ground, killing and eating any unfortunate explorer who dared to set their foot into the cave. Before the events of the game, it trapped Leif in its cobweb, and kept him in there for decades, until the arrival of Vi and Kabbu, who traveled into Snakemouth Den to find the artifact and complete their first mission. Upon noticing them, the Spider immediately fired a string of cobweb to ensnare Vi, and just when Kabbu pushed her away from danger, the Spider appeared and tried to eat them. After Vi made her escape, Kabbu tried to fight the Spider off, but to no avail, as it ensnared Kabbu in a cocoon. It was about to eat him, but Vi, feeling guilty for abandoning Kabbu to his fate, arrives to distract the Spider and save her partner from getting eaten. After that, the duo then proceeds to destroy its cobweb to free Leif and escape together to safety through a narrow passage, preventing the Spider from following them inside.

As Vi, Kabbu and Leif traveled through the Snakemouth Depths and grew stronger, they ultimately managed to find the desired artifact, but just when they claimed it, they triggered a trap that was about to flood the cave. To make matters worse, the Spider managed to catch up with them, determined to kill and eat them. However, the team grew stronger ever since their first encounter and had Leif accompanying them this time. With their newfound strength, they managed to defeat the Spider, but during their fight, they forgot about the flood and were flushed to the surface, while the Spider presumably drowned in the flood.

Bestiary[]

The ender of journeys, this vicious Spider made Snakemouth Den its hunting ground while guarding an ancient artifact. Seemingly immortal, it haunted the cave for countless moons before being defeated by a trio of explorers. Although it is now gone, the stories of bugs trapped in its web will haunt explorers forever.

We meet again... you vicious affront to bugkind. For all the suffering you've caused, I...no, WE will see to your end! I'll rely on the others to knock the beast down when I can't reach it. And use my stills to protect them from damage!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on Spider.
This spider...just gets scarier the more I look at it. but I'm not going to run away this time! I'll knock it out from the sky whenever it climbs up its web. Let's beat it up and get that treasure!
~ Vi's spy notes on Spider.
This may be unbecoming of us but... After so long, we're going to get revenge. For all the time we spent on that cocoon... you will suffer tenfold! As long as Bee keeps it knocked down, we will attack it without a hint of mercy!
