Stop wasting your breath, angelito. There's no one up there listening.
~ Spider Monkey mocking Danny Corven's prayers

Spider Monkey is a supporting antagonist in the 1996 film The Crow: City of Angels. He is a gangster and drug dealer who, along with three other criminals, murders Ashe and Danny Corven on orders from drug lord Judah Earl.

He was portrayed by Vincent Castellanos.

Early life[]

Spider Monkey is one of drug lord Judah Earl's lieutenants, tasked mostly with manufacturing and packaging the hallucinogenic, highly addictive drug Trinity in Earl's drug lab. He is also addicted to the drug and is frequently seen snorting it.

Earl sends Spider Monkey and three of his other lieutenants - Curve, Nemo, and Kali - to kill someone near auto mechanic Ashe Corven's shop, and Spider Monkey's high-pitched cackle attracts the curiosity of Ashe's young son, Danny, who runs outside to investigate. The boy witnesses Curve shoot the man in the head, killing him. Earl, who had been watching the murder from across the street, tells his lieutenants to kill Ashe and Danny to avoid leaving witnesses. Before the gang shoots Ashe and Danny dead, Spider-Monkey mocks Danny's terrified prayers by telling him that "there's no one up there listening".

In the film[]

When Ashe is resurrected from the dead by a mystical crow and embarks upon a mission to kill his and Danny's murderers, he goes after Spider Monkey first. He finds Spider Monkey in Earl's drug lab, manufacturing and snorting Trinity. Ashe crashes through the roof of the lab and asks Spider Monkey, "Does the corpse have a familiar face?" Realizing who Ashe is, a terrified Spider Monkey tries to run, but Ashe tackles him to the ground and pushes him against a drum of highly volatile chemicals.

Ashe then produces a pack of matches and threatens to ignite them over the drum, which would cause the lab to explode, unless Spider Monkey tells him who else killed him and Danny, and where to find them. Spider Monkey names Earl and the other lieutenants and tells him where he can find Nemo.

Ashe tells Spider Monkey he has just won himself a fighting chance. He pulls out a deck of cards and tells him that they will both pick a card, promising to let him go if he draws a higher one. Spider Monkey picks the Jack of Diamonds and grins, believing he has won; seconds later, however, Ashe draws the Queen of Diamonds, throws the cards in Spider Monkey's face, and prepares to light the matches. When Spider Monkey begs for his life, Ashe mockingly replies, "You're wasting your breath, Monkey - there's no one up there listening," and lights the matches, causing a huge explosion that destroys the lab and kills Spider Monkey instantly.
