~ Spike Rosered |
Spike Rosered, also known as Axle The Red in the original English release, is a minor antagonist in Mega Man X5. He is a Maverick who is found as the boss of the jungle stage. Spike has the Orbiter Engine of the Shuttle in his possession. Upon defeating him, X also gets his hands on the Spike Ball, with which he can launch green, spiky balls that go out a set distance, then return upon whiffing. The Ground Fires are Spike's weakness, presumably burning his flowery parts.
Character[]
Personality[]
Spike was quite apathetic to the fate of the Earth as long as he could steal anything. He also expressed disapproval at the methods of the Maverick Hunters, mentioning the Repliforce's coup. He also mentions that he doesn't know what the term "Maverick" meant.
In the X5 Manga, Spike is portrayed as feral and violent, fitting for his scary look, although his bestial nature fails to rob him of his speech capabilities.
Appearance[]
Spike Rosered resembles a humanoid rose. His face is green and has no mouth, instead having a white oval-shaped spot that goes from nose to chin. His hair is red and is stylised like a rose. He wears a green chestplate over a black shirt with rose-like cuffs, green shorts, black leggings, and green boots. His left boot has a similar pattern to bandage wrapping around one leg, and his right boot has vines that also creep up his right leg. The boots are green in the regions that correspond to slippers, with the exceptions of their toe and ankle areas, which are white. His left arm ends in a hand that has a white glove while his right arm ends in a green vine-like tentacle.
In the X5 Manga, because of Shining Hotarunicus' work, Spike has a mouth with sharp teeth replacing his game counterpart's white spot.
Biography[]
Battle[]
Spike Rosered first starts the fight by getting up and attacking with his spiked balls. After that, he will create copies of himself and attack with the rose whip. If the player gets caught in the whip, their life energy will be depleted. He is weak to Burn Dinorex's weapon the ground fire if playing as X. If playing as Zero, his weakness is the ability Quake Blazer. If playing as X, you will get Rosered's spike ball ability and if playing as Zero, you will get his twin dream ability.
Manga Adaptation[]
In the Manga, Spike was depicted as more feral, with the white spot where a mouth should be being replaced by sharp teeth à la a shark. His appearance was derived from Shining Hotarunicus' experiments on him. Having broken free of his prison, Spike bites Zero with his teeth, causing him to go haywire. Later, when X invades the bad guys' base, he gets into a fight with Spike, the haywire Zero, and two other Mavericks. X applies his cure to Zero. Zero, now able to fight off his Evil side, goes on a rampage and Spike meets his karmic demise at Zero's hands.
Trivia[]
