Biography[]
The millennia-old Spirit Killer is an assassin who serves the Source of All Evil, who commands him to destroy good witches and mortals who selflessly help others. He curses his victims with bad luck and fills their minds with obsessive fears of losing everything and everyone they hold dear, until they finally commit suicide to be rid of them. The Spirit Killer then takes their victims' souls. He uses powers such as telepathy, shapeshifting, invisibility, and reality-warping to torment his victims.
His typical victims are Whitelighters, magical beings who serve as guardian angels for good witches.
In 2000, he is assigned to kill philanthropist and future Whitelighter Maggie Murphy, torturing her with bad luck and obsessive thoughts of impending doom that quickly turn her into a pariah among her friends and family and driving her to the brink of suicide.
When Maggie finally does try to kill herself by jumping off the roof of her apartment building, Prue Halliwell - one of the "Charmed Ones", a trio of good witches along with her sisters Piper and Phoebe who are prophesied to fight the Source - saves her life. Prue and Phoebe cast a spell to reverse her bad luck, which angers the Spirit Killer to the point that he curses Prue's luck and plagues her mind with fearful, suicidal thoughts, hoping to make her commit suicide and take her good luck spell with her to the grave, thus giving him the chance to continue tormenting Maggie while killing a good witch in the process.
The Spirit Killer's torture nearly breaks Prue's spirit, especially when plants the idea in her head that her late boyfriend Andy's death was her fault. She prepares to kill herself by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, with the invisible Spirit Killer standing behind her, whispering in her ear that she deserves to die. Fortunately, Piper and Phoebe arrive just in time to stop her, telling her that she is not responsible for Andy's death, and it is only the Spirit Killer making her believe that it was her fault; they then reverse the Spirit Killer's power of invisibility, revealing that he is standing right behind them.
Prue snaps out of her depression and uses her power of telekinesis to lift an uncharacteristically frightened Spirit Killer into the air and throw him onto the ground hard enough to severely injure him. Wanting revenge for the pain the Spirit Killer inflicted upon her, Prue comes very close to using her powers to kill him as brutally as possible, but the sisters' Whitelighter, Leo Wyatt, manages to stop her by roughly lifting the Spirit Killer up and teleporting away with him into the spirit realm, promising that he will be dealt with by a much more powerful, and less forgiving, authority.
