Splinter is a major antagonist in Path of Stars, the last book of Dawn of the Clans arc and a minor antagonist in super edition Riverstar's Home, from Erin Hunter's Warriors book series.
He is a rogue and formerly member of Slash's group who used to work for his leader and aid him in number of plans, including terrorizing the Early Settlers, most notably Clear Sky's group. He helped Slash in taking over the Park but eventually betrayed him for his own interest, before fleeing upon Riverstar's revival.
Biography[]
Path of Stars[]
During Clear Sky and Sparrow Fur's hunt, Splinter, Slash and Snake reveal themselves after Beetle catches the hunting cats' prey. The rogues proceed to antagonize the two, before demanding from Sparrow Fur to hand over her caught rabbit. After the she-cat rejects, Slash states that it belongs to them, before claiming that they'll leave the two of them alone, with Splinter adding that only for now. Following that, Clear Sky hands the rabbit over, but not before calling the rogues fat, soft and lazy. This infuriates Slash, who swipes at the light gray tom. However, Sparrow Fur counters by unbalancing the rogue leader, before slashing at his nose in return. This prompts Snake to distract the young she-cat by slashing her tail, which allows Slash to knock her down. After Snake's cheer to kill the she-cat, Splinter and Beetle split apart and make space for Slash and Sparrow Fur, watching the fight with sadistic pleasure. Luckily, Clear Sky manages to diffuse the situation by handing the rogues a squirrel they caught. Content with this decision, Slash and his rogues begin to make their way back into the forest with stolen prey, only to stop when Clear Sky threatened Slash on their way back. Slash takes the rabbit from Beetle and flung it back to Clear Sky, telling him to give it to Star Flower as a gift from him, before leaving.
Splinter is then seen in Slash's camp, watching silently from the back of the clearing as Slash gives out miserable-looking pieces of prey to most of his cats, before joining his leader in feasting on a much larger and warmer prey, alongside Beetle. He is complimented by his leader on his work and picks a plump pigeon for himself, before joining the latter and Beetle in a more secluded part of the camp. As Slash begins to gloat that keeping all of his other campmates hungry makes them do what he says, Splinter says that he doesn't know why Slash bothers to give the other cats anything at all, to which the latter answers that they have their uses. Several hours later, he falls asleep alongside Beetle, both of them full after their meal.
During the rogues' attack on Wind Runner's camp, the black-and-white tom assists Slash in fighting Wind Runner, being told to attack her throat, but is shoved aside by Gorse Fur. As Wind Runner begins to flee, Splinter chases after her, although is in turn pursued by Gorse Fur. Following the couple's return, they announce that Splinter has been driven away. After the rogues' return to their camp, Splinter is training with Beech. He asks Slash if he should go easy on the she-cat this time and although the rogue leader snaps that no, he smirks upon realising that Splinter meant that sarcastically. The leader explains that Beech must learn that if she'll be slow, she'll get hurt, before signalling with his tail to begin. While Beech manages to quickly gain the upperhand, Slash steps on her tail, pinning her to the ground long enough for Splinter to leap at her, pinning her to the ground and clawing her pelt. Before the fight could escalate further, Slash ordered Splinter to stop, the latter backing away. Moments later, a pack of dogs suddenly arrives, having chased Red all along this way. Splinter and Beetle immediately jump to Slash, before together driving the dogs away with their swipes. Upon noticing Thunder and Lightning Tail intruding to the camp, he and Beetle pin Lightning Tail down, who proceeds to accuse Slash of letting Beech die in the attack, which the rogues brush off, with Splinter stating that she was a waste of food. Upon noting Red's disappearance, Splinter and Beetle deduce that the reddish-brown tom might have brought the dogs to the camp on purpose, as a way of destroying their group. After Slash questions Thunder on who he is and what is he doing in the former's camp, Splinter claims that the ginger tom might be a spy. When the rest of Slash's campmates begin to rebel, he and Beetle move closer to Slash before leaving the camp with him, Snake and Swallow.
During the Gathering on which Slash's former rogues are officially accepted into the five groups, the rogue leader disrupts the event with his followers. Splinter, Beetle and Snake face the groups during Slash's announcement and after he finishes, the rogues leave, before kidnapping Gray Wing's son, Black Ear. After being caught up with by the rescue party, Splinter and the rest of Slash's followers face them with bristled fur, ready to fight. However, Slash instead orders Swallow to leave the kit, prompting his rogues to follow him into the forest.
Riverstar's Home[]
Splinter is revealed to have taken over Cats of the Park's territory, along with the rest of Slash's cats. Before approaching the rogues' camp, Riverstar recalls in his head how Magda managed to convince Splinter and Bee to fight on the side of the Park cats during the oncoming battle, while Scooby persuaded Swallow.
As more rogues started to surround Riverstar and his friends, who revealed themselves, the silver tom manages to spot Splinter and Swallow follow Bee out from a bush nearby. However, once the battle began, the three rogues remained behind and watched with interest who was winning. Upon witnessing Riverstar return to life following the loss of one of his lives, Splinter was shocked with the rest of the rogues, shouting that the silver tom is not a cat. Slash ordered his cats to attack Riverstar again, but none of them moved. RiverClan founder then threatened the rogues by leaping forward, but all of them started to scatter. After Ember claimed that if Slash isn't afraid of Riverstar, then he clearly doesn't need them, Splinter joins the orange tom and Snake in fleeing the camp.
Appearance[]
Splinter is a black-and-white tom.
Personality[]
Similarly to all of Slash's followers, Splinter is equally sadistic as them. Just like Beetle, he shares his leader's belief that only strongest cats who can fend for themselves deserve to eat best. However, despite his loyalty to Slash, Splinter decided to betray him by seemingly siding with the Park cats with the true intention of supporting the stronger side, showing that he followed Slash all this time due to considering him the strongest cat.
