~ Sport Invincible boasting to Tech Jacket.

Markus "Mark" Sebastian Grayson, also known as Sport Invincible, is a supporting antagonist in the Image Comics comic series Invincible, and its animated adaptation of the same name.

He was one of the Evil Invincibles that started off as a hero, but became evil and conquered his Earth. He was later found by Angstrom Levy, and agreed to help him destroy the reputation of his world’s Invincible.

He is voiced by Steven Yeun, who also played all the other Evil Invincibles, A. Traveler in The Twilight Zone, Ricky "Jupe" Park in Nope and Danny Cho in Beef.

Appearance[]

Sport Invincible dons a tracksuit, with a sharper more angled design, having blander colours and no mask. Instead, he has goggles that have a nosebridge. The suit also has his fingers and toes exposed in the show only.

Personality[]

Sportvincible in specific is shown to have a conceited personality, a more formal and drone-like speech patterns, as well as being incredibly vocal about the Viltrum Empire's superiority, presumably meaning that he was indoctrinated by his father very early on in his life. His makeshift suit is, in words of his designer Ryan Ottley, meant to imply that he never met his universe's Art Rosenbaum and thus didn't get a proper superhero suit. He also claims to have murdered many Geldarians and to be familiar enough with their technology to recognize it immediately, possibly implying that he was an active agent of the Viltrum Empire in space missions.

Biography[]

Comics[]

Main article: Hairvincible and Sportvincible

Sport Invincible would arrive alongside the other Evil Invincibles and started destroying everything he could. He would later meet up with Long Hair Invincible to fight Tech Jacket on day 1. The two nearly killed Tech Jacket but were ultimately killed when Tech Jacket overloaded his system in a violent explosion. Although Sport Invincible was shown being killed by Tech Jacket on day 1, he later appeared alive on day 2, fighting Witchblade, which raises the question of whether the Tech Jacket digital comics are canon or not.

TV Series[]

In a flashback from his dimension, Angstrom experiences an event where Sport Invincible took pleasure in destroying the city and civilians. When he did, the destruction killed many people, including Angstrom's spouse.

Sport Invincible was one of the variants recruited by Angstrom Levy to attack the mainstream dimension, starting the world-shattering event known as the Invincible War.

Sport Invincible arrived in the mainstream universe through Angstrom's portal alongside the other variants, and immediately proceeded to destroy everything in sight.

Sport Invincible would somehow get killed off screen. His bloody, mangled corpse is seen somewhere dug into a crater with several crows pecking away at it. It is unknown how he died.

Trivia[]

  • This specific variant of Invincible is often called "CW Invincible" by fans in reference to the suit design seen in The CW's Arrowverse franchise (and the way he talks in the comics).
    • This specific variant is also memed because of his exposed toes, being called names such as "Gripper Invincible" by fans.
  • Due to the fact that he died off-screen in the show from unknown reasons, there is a theory that he simply died from crash landing into the Earth. People say that in the Sport Invincible’s Universe, the ground is much softer, enabling him to crash into and through the ground in his dimension. The ground in the universe of the main Invincible is supposedly harder, which led him to slamming into the ground at subsonic speeds, mangling and killing him instantly. This also explains his interesting attire of his bare toes being exposed.
  • He has a much more prevalent roll in the Invincible War in the comics, fighting against and almost beating Tech Jacket with Long Hair Invincible, but ended up losing from Tech Jackets Geldarian suit self-destructing, killing him and Long Hair Invincible instantly and severely injuring Tech Jacket in the process.
  • Of all the Invincibles, he has the most different and distinctive design from the original source. Because of this, there are even suggestions that he and his comic counterpart are different Invincibles, In reality, this is just a redesign, as most variants were given. (Let's be honest, Sport Invincible was done dirty in the show)
  • It is unknown as to what killed him in the show, but many presume that the crows around his corpse are a reference to the anti-hero Spawn, which was present in the Invincible war in the Comics fighting Viltrumite Invincible but was absent in the show (due to licensing issues), this doesn't rule out his existence in-universe, however. Others also theorize that he fought against Tech Jacket alongside Mustache Invincible and was killed during the battle, similar to how he fought Tech Jacket alongside Long Hair Invincible in the comics.

  1. There are theories saying that he possibly fought alongside Mustache Invincible but Tech Jacket's lightning bolt injured him and he fell from space to earth, that impact is supposed to have caused his death although we will never know how he died (TV)
