The Sports Car Patrol are minor antagonists in the Transformers franchise. They formed part of the 1989 toyline.
History[]
The Sports Car Patrol were first glimpsed in the Marvel UK-exclusive story "A Small War", where they were among the first Decepticon Micromasters constructed by Thunderwing after he captured and reverse-engineered the Autobot Battle Patrol.
This led into their first full appearance in Marvel US Issue #56. The quartet infiltrated the Ark using a dimensional portal and made an attempt to drive Ratchet mad by forcing remote-controlled deactivated Autobots to attack him. They abandoned the plan when it became clear Ratchet was willing to let the other Autobots kill him than cause further damage to them, and instead approached Ratchet posing as Autobots and convinced him to return to Cybertron with them to use the new techniques there to repair the damaged Autobots. However, Blackjack remained behind on the Ark. The others presented Ratchet to their leader, the believed dead Megatron.
As was revealed in the rest of the storyline, the Sports Car Patrol had been the first Decepticons to fall under Megatron's command after he spent time on Cybertron with amnesia following his apparent death, and were determined to help him regain command of the Decepticons. While Ratchet was forced to rebuild Starscream as a brainwashed Pretender, Blackjack managed to overpower the skeleton crew left on the Ark and set a bomb, only to be captured by Kup.
The Sports Car Patrol made their last appearance in Issue #59, where Ratchet turned the tables and revived his friends Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee as Pretenders. With Blackjack a prisoner of the Earth Autobots, Megatron sent Detour, Road Hugger and Hyperdrive to battle the three new Autobots, along with Dreadwind and Darkwing. The battle carried those involved away from Megatron's base and came to an abrupt halt when the bomb from the Ark, which Ratchet had arranged to be sent through the dimensional portal, detonated and destroyed the base.
