~ Sprout Mole Mike hosting the finale of Sweetheart's show. |
Sprout Mole Mike, also known as just Mike, is a minor antagonist in the 2020 psychological horror RPG Omori. A staunchly loyal subject of Sweetheart, Mike is the host of Sweetheart's romance show, "Sweetheart's Quest For Hearts". As a talented orator, Mike went on to narrate the show for forty-two seasons until Omori and his allies showed up. As with all the other Sprout Moles, Mike redeems himself following Sweetheart's defeat, but he maintains visible sadness over his master's decision to leave behind the Sprout Mole population in favor of Space Boyfriend.
Appearance[]
As with all Sprout Moles, Sprout Mole Mike is a brown teardrop-shaped animal with two stubby feet and a plant shoot sprouting from his head. What distinguishes him from other Sprout Moles is his cosmetics; Mike wears a pair of dapper sunglasses that covers his eyes and also sports what appears to be a green buzzcut as his hair.
Personality[]
As the host of Sweetheart's romance, Mike portrays the stereotypical characteristics of a TV narrator. He is heavily enthusiastic in his commentary and often exaggerates his language in order to fire up his audience. Mike is a professional in the art of oration, and this trait, along with his ability to dramatize information, makes Mike somewhat more intelligent than most Sprout Moles, who instead just mindlessly yell generic phrases of support for Sweetheart. Speaking of Sweetheart, Mike, like every other Sprout Mole, is a fanatic for the princess, but unlike the other moles, Mike appears to be more reserved in his emotions, keeping his love for Sweetheart within himself (though, he still wants as much attention from her as every other mole, as seen in a poster found in Orange Oasis of Mike and Sweetheart at the beach).
Mike is nevertheless undyingly loyal towards Sweetheart, always having something positive to say about his superior. He clearly shows disdain when Sweetheart leaves with Captain Spaceboy, and his dialogue later on in the game confirms he harbors feelings of jealousy against Spaceboy due to Sweetheart choosing him over her ecstatic fanbase. It is unknown whether this relationship is mutual, but based on her interactions with Mike, it can be assumed Sweetheart at least recognizes Mike more than the other Sprout Moles.
Background[]
Backstory[]
It is unknown when exactly Mike met Sweetheart, but based on the aforementioned poster, it can be assumed he had a past friendship with her. Following Sweetheart's settlement in the Sprout Mole Village, Mike became the host of her romance show, Sweetheart's Quest For Hearts. According to Mike himself, the show aired for forty-two seasons, each episode failing to secure a suitable partner for Sweetheart due to her egotistical standards.
Three Days Left[]
Mike is introduced into the story when he enters the stage of Sweetheart's theater to host a "special episode" of Sweetheart's Quest For Hearts, which Omori and friends stole tickets for. After paying tribute to the deceased Ye Old Sprout (whom Omori and his friends had killed), Mike kickstarts the show by welcoming three contestants for Sweetheart's partner. He describes their hobbies, height and hometown. However, before Mike is able to welcome Sweetheart onto the stage, a bolt of lightning strikes the room, killing the third contestant, Snaley, and causing a power outage. Omori and his friends must return to the Sprout Mole Village to reconnect the power. Upon their return to the theater, a vengeful Rosa, disguised as "Mustache Mole", manipulates Hero into replacing Snaley as the third contestant. After paying tribute to Snaley's death, Mike welcomes Hero onto the stage, before giving way to Sweetheart. When Hero refuses Sweetheart's attempt to marry him, and Omori, Aubrey and Kel jump to his defense, Mike witnesses Sweetheart's guard moles throwing the kids into the dungeon.
After escaping the dungeon and assisting in preparations for a heavily anticipated event, Omori and friends return to the theater, where a saddened Mike addresses an eager audience, declaring the event "the final episode" of Sweetheart's Quest For Hearts. It turns out Sweetheart had given up on finding a partner, and has decided to marry herself for the finale of her romance arc. Mike announces the vows for the wedding, but before he can give permission for Sweetheart to kiss the "bride", Omori and friends storm to the stage, insisting Sweetheart to cease her delusional activity. Mike witnesses Sweetheart's battle with the kids, and he, along with her guards, remain behind in the theater as the audience moles flee. Afterwards, Captain Spaceboy arrives in his spaceship and declares his forgiveness and intent to marry Sweetheart. Sweetheart changes her mind and agrees to the marriage. Mike personally oversees the ceremony and unites the couple in holy matrimony while Sweetheart destroys her old stage, no longer needing it. Mike walks with Sweetheart and Spaceboy to Spaceboy's waiting spaceship, where the latter two embark and depart for a new chapter in their lives. Turning back for one last look at the stage where he hosted forty-two seasons of Sweetheart's show, Mike comes to accept his new future, and slowly leaves the theater for the last time.
Two Days Left[]
Following Sweetheart's abandonment of her loyal Sprout Mole subjects, Mike left the Sprout Mole Village to journey on his own endeavors. He can be found at the Last Resort's Club Sandwich, where he drunkenly demonstrates jealousy over Spaceboy winning Sweetheart's attention, proving that he is still deeply upset of losing his idol and his role as her trusted second.
Trivia[]
- Sprout Mole Mike is one of the few antagonists in Omori who do not engage Omori and his friends in battle.
- Mike is also one of the few antagonists in Omori who survive the events of Headspace, the others being Boss, Rosa, Mr. Jawsum, and Humphrey.
