Sskel is an Ice Warrior and one of the antagonists of the Doctor Who serial The Monster of Peladon. He is the right hand of the villainous Lord Azaxyr and the one responsible for the murder of Chancellor Ortron.
He was portrayed by Sonny Caldinez, who also portrayed Kra in The Man with the Golden Gun, Turoc and an unnamed Ice Warrior in several other Doctor Who episodes and one of René Belloq's henchmen in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Biography
After Azaxyr and his men, including Sskel, arrived on the planet Peladon to mine the mineral Trisilicate for the terror group Galaxy 5, they hid in the refinery until it became convenient.
Episode Two
In the second part of the serial, Sarah Jane Smith, companion of the time traveller The Doctor, sighted a figure in the tunnels of the refinery. This was later confirmed to be Sskel.
Episode Four
After Azaxyr declared the planet under martial law, Sskel informed him that he had taken hostages and would kill them if the miners did not mine the Trisilicate Azaxyr wanted. One of these hostages, a miner named Gebek, was almost rescued by a group of other miners, but Sskel and the others opened fire and killed them. Sskel was later left by Azaxyr to guard the Doctor, Sarah and an alien named Alpha Centuri after Sarah and Eckersley convinced him that the Doctor was better off alive. During this time, Sarah realised that Sskel was the figure she saw in the refinery. He was later attacked by the miners, but survived.
Episode Five
Sskel was assigned to guard queen Thailira to prevent her from escaping. However, Alpha Centuri was able to distract Sskel and Thailira almost escaped before Sskel was able to kill Ortron and Azaxyr captured her. He was later sent to capture the Doctor and Sarah along with two other warriors. He found them in the refinery and began shooting down the door of the control room where they were hiding.
Episode Six
Before Sskel could get into the room, the Doctor was able to use Eckersley's heat ray to kill the Ice Warriors attacking. Sskel, however, survived and returned to Azaxyr. Eventually, after much fighting, the rebelling miners reached the throne room where Azaxyr, Sskel and several Ice warriors were holding Thailira hostage. Despite Azaxyr's attempts to pacify them, the miners and guards attacked the Warriors. During the fight, Sskel killed one of the attackers but was accidently shot by Azaxyr.
