The St. John Family are the main antagonists of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead: Season One episode "Starved For Help".

Biography[]

The St. John family first appears when Andy and Danny encounter Lee and the rest of the Motel Survivors at the Travelier Motel. In an attempt to establish trust, the brothers offer food in exchange for gasoline, something the Motel group desperately needs. After a brief discussion, Andy and Danny extend an invitation to their family-owned dairy farm, promising safety and stability, which convinces the survivors to follow them.

Upon arriving at the St. John Dairy, the group is introduced to Brenda, the brothers’ mother. Andy immediately takes Lee and Mark to inspect the electric fences surrounding the farm, emphasizing how important the defenses are for keeping walkers away. However, their relative sense of security is quickly shattered when a group of hostile bandits ambushes them, and Mark is struck in the shoulder by an arrow. Lee helps him back to the farmhouse, where Brenda quickly takes charge of his treatment and leads the injured man inside.

Meanwhile, Lee and Danny set out to investigate a nearby bandit camp to uncover who is behind the attack. During this tense search, they come across Jolene, a disturbed woman living in the woods. She confronts them with a crossbow and rants about the St. John family’s dark secrets. While trying to reason with her, Lee discovers Clementine’s missing hat in the camp. The situation escalates, and depending on the player’s choices, either Lee or Danny kills Jolene. With the camp cleared, the two men return to the dairy.

That evening, Brenda prepares a large dinner for the guests. While everyone gathers around the table, Lee becomes suspicious and excuses himself to check on Mark upstairs. To his horror, Lee discovers that Mark has been mutilated—his legs amputated—and realizes the awful truth: the family is serving Mark’s flesh to the survivors. He rushes downstairs to expose the St. Johns’ gruesome secret, warning the others just as they are about to eat. The confrontation turns violent, and the group is taken captive and imprisoned in the farm’s slaughterhouse.

Inside, tensions boil over as Larry suffers a fatal heart attack, and the group is forced to make harrowing decisions about survival. They eventually manage to break free from captivity, only to run into Danny. A brutal struggle ensues between Danny and Lee, ending with Lee overpowering him. At this moment, Lee must choose whether to execute Danny in cold blood or spare his life, leaving his ultimate fate uncertain.

Lee then returns to the farmhouse, where he encounters Brenda holding Katjaa hostage at gunpoint. As Lee cautiously tries to de-escalate the situation, the reanimated, zombified Mark stumbles into the room and sinks his teeth into Brenda’s neck. This sudden turn of events gives Katjaa and Lee the chance to escape.

Outside, Lee reunites with the group only to find Andy holding Duck hostage. Another fierce fight breaks out between Lee and Andy, ending similarly with Lee victorious. Once again, the choice falls to Lee: kill Andy or spare him. Regardless of the decision, the Motel Survivors ultimately flee the dairy farm, leaving the St. John legacy in ruins.

If Andy, Danny, and Brenda are all killed, the farm is left without anyone to maintain it, effectively marking the end of the St. John family. If either Andy or Danny is spared, their final fate remains ambiguous. It is never revealed whether they managed to evade the approaching walkers, escape into hiding, or if they were ultimately consumed by the horde, leaving their story unresolved.
