Stop hand

Stacked Deck is one of the major crews in EA Games' 2006 racing video game Need for Speed: Carbon, serving as the main antagonists of the game.

Led by Darius — the game's main antagonist, they control the Silverton borough of Palmont City, driving red, black and silver cars.

Overview[]

Stacked Deck is led by Darius and based in Silverton.

After the player conquered Downtown, Kempton, and Fortuna, Darius will recruit Kenji, Wolf and Angie into Stacked Deck, saying he needs a "motivated crew" to defeat the player. Different to the other main crews, the members drive every car class (tuner, exotic, and muscle) in the game, and only drive Tier 3 cars. Their vehicles are characterized by a red and black paint job with silver lines. Their logo is a red snake coiled around a dead man's hand (Aces and Eights).

The player faces off against them again after conquering Downtown, Kempton, and Fortuna, before finally dueling against Darius in the Carbon Canyon against his Audi Le Mans quattro.

History[]

Stacked Deck first appeared at the beginning of the game's Career Mode, when their leader Darius confronts and reprimands ex-police sergeant-turned-bounty hunter Nathan Cross for hunting and apprehending the player in Silverton without his permission. Darius tasks one of his crew members, David, to pay for the player's bounty, setting the player free from Cross' custody. Then, Nikki — Darius' girlfriend — arrives at the scene, furious at the player — her ex — for allegedly sabotaging a past race from a few years ago that forced them to flee Palmont City with the stolen prize money. Darius asks Nikki to help the player start their own street racing crew so the player can later pay back a debt they owe to him for saving them twice: the first was him helping them escape Palmont; the second was covering their bounty.

Later, Nikki approaches Darius to inform him that the player has gained more territory and could surpass Silverton by winning a few more races. Strangely, she notices Darius isn't very bothered by the news when he complimented the player and how their effort will settle the debt they owe to him and her. Suspicious, Nikki insinuates he is exploiting the player in order to claim their turf as debt once they are no longer useful to his agenda. However, Darius preposterously denies this, and defends that he still has an edge over the player, even without racing.

After the player conquers Downtown, Kempton, and Fortuna, Darius calls the player to meet with him at the city's courthouse to "congratulate" him on conquering the three other boroughs of Palmont. It was quickly revealed that Darius claims that he was using the player to control the entire city, before double-crossing them and handing them over to Cross.

Once Nikki leaves Stacked Deck — after learning that Darius was the culprit who sabotaged the fateful race, stole the money, and manipulated the player, as well as striking a deal with Cross beforehand to pay the player's bounty — and join the player's crew, when the player enters their first race in Silverton, a cutscene plays where he receives a phone call from an unknown source, informing him that Nikki freed the player from Cross' custody and joined the player's crew. Angered by Nikki's defection, Darius recruits Kenji (from Bushido), Angie (from 21st Street), and Wolf (from TFK) after they lost their turfs and disbanded their crews to join Stacked Deck.

After the player wins their first race in Silverton, Darius and his crew confronts the player (and possibly the player's wingman if the player races in a race where a crew member can be used), mocking and threatening them before leaving.

Once the player conquers all districts of Silverton, the player must defeat Angie, Wolf, and Kenji in a Canyon Sprint and a City Sprint before facing Darius. The player must race Darius in a circuit race, and after that, must beat him in a Canyon Duel. At last, the player defeats Darius, he hands the keys to his Audi Le Mans quattro and Silverton, effectively disbanding Stacked Deck for good. Before he leaves Palmont in David's Jaguar XK, he tells the player to enjoy their victory for as long as they can before someone else faster than them catches up. With Stacked Deck dissolved, the player and Nikki reconcile their relationship as they watch Darius leave the city.

The crew is led by Darius. Nikki originally was a part of the crew until the player conquers all other 3 territories, in which,Nikki leaves Stacked Deck and joins the player's crew. Cars[]

Unlike the other crews in Palmont, Stacked Decked is the only Crew that has its members drive all three car classes - Tuners, Muscles, and Exotics and only in Tier 3. A Stacked Deck member's livery is always painted in metallic red with black and silver stripes. 4 variations of Stacked Deck's vinyls exist. Angie, Kenji, and Wolf have their own custom liveries, however they correspond with the Stacked Deck's offical colors. The player cannot obtain any of the Stacked Deck's cars, however, Darius' Audi Le Mans quattro can be driven in Quick Race under the Custom Cars section after defeating him, and Kenji, Wolf, and Angie's cars can be driven in the Collectors' Edition's Checkpoint events within the Challenge Series.  However, the player can re-create their cars via mods if they have Extra Options (to access their vinyls).

Stacked Deck uses the following cars. Note that Stacked Deck may also use any addon Tier 3 cars, provided that their RandomOpponent field in NFS VLT-Ed is set to True.

Trivia[]

  • Kenji, Angie and Wolf's Tier 3 cars are fitted with bodykits overlaid on top of the stock body, and their brake rotors are missing. Also, Nikki's Ford GT has the same issue with the brake rotors.
    • These issues were fixed in the Improvement Mod of Need for Speed: Carbon, or can be fixed with Binary.
  • Even though Stacked Deck uses Tier 3 cars, David is the only member to drive a Tier 2 car, which is a Jaguar XK.
  • According to the game files of Need for Speed: Carbon, Nikki was supposed to drive a Chrysler 300C SRT-8 (Tier 1 muscle car) and a Dodge Charger SRT-8 (2005) (Tier 2 muscle car) to correspond with the respective tier of car the player drives. She only drives a Ford GT in the final release of the game.
    • The player can fix this using NFS VLT-Ed
