Stampede is the overarching antagonist of the 1987 animated series BraveStarr. He is the master of Tex Hex and his gang of outlaws, and the archenemy of Shaman.
He was voiced by Alan Oppenheimer, who also voiced Outlaw Skuzz in the series and Skeletor in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Biography[]
A demonic, partly skeletal Broncosaur of great mystic power, Stampede desired to become even more powerful. He sought a power plant on a certain planet that was protected by a tribe led by Shaman, and unleashed his herd of gigantic Broncosaurs to attack them. When Shaman faced Stampede in astral form, Stampede instead targeted the young BraveStarr, though Shaman was able to protect himself and the boy. Stampede eventually gained the power he sought, but the plant's energy proved too powerful for even him to absorb, resulting in him destroying his army of Broncosaurs (leaving him the last of his kind) and the whole planet, as well as the entire tribe except Shaman and BraveStarr.
Stampede managed to survive the destruction, after which he settled on the planet of New Texas to build his new base of operations; Shaman also moved to New Texas to face him again. Stampede first saw the opportunity to find aid when Tex's ship crashed near his base. He resurrected Tex (renaming him Tex Hex) as his new servant and gave him magical powers, allowing Tex Hex to revive Skuzz. As the revelation of New Texas' rich supply of kerium invited many settlers, Stampede secretly had Tex Hex recruit the worst of them into an army of terror.
In the series, Stampede serves as the boss of Tex Hex and the outlaws based at the Hexagon. He constantly plots revenge against Shaman and to take over New Texas, through various schemes such as using the power of an artifact called the Haunted Shield, and creating a Bronco-Tank to destroy Fort Kerium and the Shaman (though it backfired and forced him to join forces with Shaman to destroy the robot). He is also intolerant of failure; he once expelled Tex Hex from the Hexagon for repeatedly failing his plots and hired an outlaw named Moribund to replace him; another time, he took away Tex's powers as punishment.
