Starscream is a supporting character in the 2024 animated film Transformers One. He was the leader of Cybertron's High Guard until he was defeated and subdued by D-16, who ended up taking leadership of the High Guard and rebranded himself as Megatron.
Following Sentinel Prime's death, Starscream and the rest of the High Guard were banished from Iacon with Megatron by Optimus Prime, in which they rechristened themselves as the Decepticons.
He is voiced by Steve Buscemi, who also played Randall Boggs in the Monster Inc franchise, Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs, Gordon Pratt in Homicide: Life on the Street, Francis E. Francis in The Boss Baby, Carl Showalter in Fargo and Tony Blundetto in The Sopranos.
Appearance[]
Starscream is a decepticon with a sleek and aerodynamic design, primarily inspired by fighter jets. His body is composed of angular armor plates, with a lean and sharp silhouette. He has wings that extend from his back, resembling those of a jet. His eyes are glowing red optics, and his color scheme includes shades of silver, gray, and red. Upon being outcasted from Iacon, he gains an insignia of the Decepticons on his wings but they are upside down and his eye turns to red.
Personality[]
As the leader of the High Guard, Starscream is a veteran warrior that is well aware of the deception that Sentinel has created amongst his people. Because of this, Starscream is dedicated to overthrowing Sentinel and dismantling his regime in vengeance for his crimes.
Starscream carries the belief that the "strength of one bot over another" is what counts and this is what ultimately leads to him and the rest of the High Guard swearing their allegiance to D-16, after D-16 delivered him a humiliating defeat. Despite his eager for challenge, he is also a bit of a coward, as he begged for D-16 to spare his life when his fusion cannon came out and was hesitant to take charge against Sentinel's forces when they invaded their base.
Nonetheless, he is more than willing to assist D-16 in killing Sentinel and after successfully managing to do so, he advocates D-16's campaign in destroying all that remains of Sentinel's legacy, in the name of Megatron. Like all the High Guard members, he harbors a great hate towards Sentinel Prime for betraying the Great Primes and made him hide for 50 years, this hate even surpass his fear of death as he insulted Sentinel despite being captured and ready to be executed by him, showing that he wouldn't let his own cowardice sink so low. Even upon being freed by Soundwave, Starscream takes in on his duty to help the other High Guard members in attacking Sentinel's forces and exposing him for good.

Past[]
Just like many of the members of the High Guard, Starscream was recruited by the Thirteen Primes along with their chief advisor Sentinel, and was given the job to lead the High Guard, which Starscream took with great honor. With the High Guard, Starscream helped the Primes protect Cybertron against threats like the Quintessons. But after seeing Sentinel's betrayal as he slaughtered the Primes, Starscream and the High Guard went into hiding on the surface continuing to fight in the shadows to sabotage Sentinel as they came to believe that might makes right over unifying all of Cybertron.
Transformers One[]
Following Orion Pax, D-16, Elita-1, and B-127's escape from the Death Trackers, they unknowingly trespassed into the High Guard's hiding spot, where they were mistaken for spies and captured for interrogation under Starscream's supervision. Starscream then offered the four bots two options: either they suffer a slow and painful death or they give in intel about Sentinel for a quick cleaner death. Orion tried to appeal to Starscream's supposed better nature by pointing out their goals of taking down Sentinel and uniting Cybertron, but Starscream scoffs at this. Eventually, D-16 has had enough and engages into a fight with Starscream before finally defeating him crushing his voice box, making his voice harsh and strained. When D-16's fusion cannon comes out, Starscream begged for mercy, to which Orion replied by convincing D-16 to spare Starscream as he is not the enemy. Declaring that this would be the last time he shows mercy, D-16 reluctantly spares Starscream while annoucing the High Guard to follow him as their new leader from now on.
However, Airachnid and the Death Trackers successfully located the High Guard's hideout and captured half of its members, including D-16, Starscream, and B-127. When they were brought before Sentinel, he mocked Starscream for his unusual voice, even as Starscream furiously vowed to punish Sentinel for his treachery and crimes. However, Orion, Elita, and the remaining High Guard managed to expose Sentinel after defeating Airachnid, which allowed Soundwave to free Starscream and the other captives. After his release, Starscream stood alongside the High Guard to fight against the Death Trackers. Following D-16's defeat of Sentinel, in which D-16 renamed himself Megatron, Starscream was the first to shout "All hail Megatron!" He happily declared his loyalty to Megatron's leadership and joined in the attack on Iacon. After the newly named Optimus Prime triumphed over Megatron and the High Guard in battle, Starscream was banished along with Megatron and the remaining members. During their exile, this group rebranded themselves as the Decepticons, and the faction's insignia, based on the face of Megatronus Prime, was emblazoned on Starscream's left wings.

Trivia[]
- Unlike his previous iterations, this version of Starscream already assumed leadership of what would eventually become the Decepticons, as it is instead Megatron that forcefully overthrows him from the position. As of now, he currently shows no signs of betraying Megatron and retaking the position of leadership back from him.
- When Megatron crushes Starscream's voice box, his voice begins to turn harsh and raspier, similar to his Generation One cartoon counterpart.
- Much like the other seekers, Starscream's vehicle mode is based on the pyramidal spacecraft alternate form used by the seekers seen in the very first episodes of the original series (ubiquitously dubbed "tetrajets" by the fanbase), with additional features coming from Cybertron Starscream and the seeker body style from High Moon Studios' War for/Fall of Cybertron games.
- His voice actor, Steve Buscemi, has been involved in the franchise before, having been the voice of Daytrader in Transformers: The Last Knight.
