He, the almighty, dislikes secrets. If we all just chose our profession nothing in this world would ever get done. He just wants balance, my dear.
~ Agent Black about the Starworm.

The Starworm, often referred to as just Him, is the background main villain of the indie Metroidvania videogame Iconoclasts created by Joakim Sandberg. He is the almighty "deity" of the Tri religion, that believes him to be a god that brought them Ivory and carries their souls to the Paradise. However, Starworm's appearance is only an humongous spaceship machine used by a bird-like alien to control mankind, and get Ivory to fuel it.

Background

Meeting with Humankind

It is believed by a book named The Precedes that the Starworm met mankind in another planet similar to Earth, and was worshiped as a god by the habitants of the Planet. Along with his arrival, he brought a fuel-type magical liquid called Ivory that he used to give resources to his worshippers. This lead to Him having his own religion called The Tri, However, he also brought a deadly, parasite virus called Blue Eye, that he used to fuel his personal machines, Controllers. This thorny, circular rounded machines have the ability to shape the planet at his will as well as kill everyone who disobeys Tri commandments (this execution done by Controllers is called Penance). However, everyone was unaware that Starworm was actually a spaceship controlled by a bird alien, that was using this religion to have Ivory without trouble.

The Breaking

While the planet was drying out of Ivory, the One Concern members were trying to find solutions to the Ivory drought. Once they realized that it was impossible to find solutions to the problem, they made a rocket to abandon the planet and move to a new, habitable one. When the planet dryed completely of Ivory, it literally broke apart, like and egg, killing the majority of mankind. The Starworm, not having resources to fuel him, he moved to the Large Moon were he and the One Concern would dig for Ivory. However, when the Ivory dryed out of the Large Moon as well, it broke apart like the planet did. After that, The Starwom moves to the Small Moon, that would be his rest place afterwards.

Drought on the New Planet

Hundred of years passed after the last breaking, as the new planet had high resources of Ivory. However, the most feared moment by the Concern came, the planet was drying out of Ivory again. Fearing that the planet would broke apart, they ran The Rocket project, planning to move to the Small Moon to be with the Starworm. None of them counted that the young mechanic Robin was in a journey with his friends to break apart the Concern instead of the planet. The Starworm knew it, and he was not satisfied.

Judgment

With the Concern in terror, everyone believed that the wave of sins would make Him to destroy mankind(NOTE: it is unknown if this was true, as The Starworm never attacked mankind until it was wounded by Royal) so, Royal planned to fly to the Small Moon with the Rocket to speak to Him and made him enter reason, that not humans are bad. When they finally met Him in the moon's building, Royal had the chance to talk to Him, however, there was not any response to his request. Angered and frustrated, Royal uses his powers to call Him, but he overpasses and wounds him in the face, leaving a deep, fleshy hole sprouding of Blue Eye bacteria. Angrier than ever, The Starworm uses a ray in Royal that made him face his deepest fears and sins, and destroy the crystal of the pod in an attempt to kill Robin as well, angered, Him leaves to bestow sentence upon mankind, sucking the Ivory remaining on the planet to make it broke apart sooner. Robin tries to escape of the moon base with a deeply traumatized Royal, but the doors were activated by his presence in the doors cameras. Knowing that she can't save his friend, leaves Royal to die in the base and goes to Earth trying to save mankind from their evil god.

Reveal

After arriving Earth, Robin goes to the crash site were the Starworm landed, leading to an Underground cave were he was sucking all the Ivory of the planet. Noticing that Robin was still alive, The Starworm uses his Conscience ray to take care of Robin, but she freed from the effect. Surprised, He prepared to stablish fight with Robin. While fighting, Robin had the chance to tear Starworm's hand off, and noticed that it was mechanical. After being terribly bruised by Robin, the Starworms collapses and explodes in the floor, opening a hatch that reveals that it was indeed, a machine controlled by a blue, bird alien with a wrench that the Concern's mechanics use. The bird tries to kill Robin with machines and powers, as well his destroyed spaceship that activates with a button, but it was not enough to destroy the young mechanic. Frustrated, the bird activates the Starworm machines in an attempt to crush Robin and kill her, but he only did a system failure inside the spaceship. Instead of killing Robin, the Starworm crushes his creator in a painful way, covering his hand in green blood. Not having the ability to take more damage, the Starworm explodes, releasing a large amount of Ivory among the Earth's surface, saving the planet from the destruction he condemned it.

Personality

Starworm is an enigmatic being that is indifferent to mankind. He sees them as tools that only serve to praise him and give him what he wants. The only thing that has in his mind is conquering and stealing. He tends to be very wrathful as well, specially when someone disrespects him or the things does not go how it was supposed to.
