| “ | The State Security Service: <SSS>. As an organization devoted to internal security, their primary job is to root out spies and keep tabs on the populace. To this end, violence, wiretapping, threats and torture were all business as usual for them. The citizens, terrified of them, called them the "Secret Police." | „ |

| “ | You're 27 years old now, aren't you? At that age you need to be more careful. They say there are spies everywhere these days and now people are reporting each other over any little thing. Didn't you hear about that 30-year-old bachelorette who was turned in by her neighbors for being "suspicious"? | „ |

The State Security Service, oftentimes abbreviated to SSS, are the secondary antagonists of the Spy × Family franchise.
They are a military organization affiliated with the Ostanian government that seeks to maintain domestic order on the country. They are widely feared by the population of Ostania because of their methods of oppression and due to that, received the nickname of Secret Police.
Despite having similar goals with the Westalian Intelligence of preventing a potential second war between the two countries, the two organizations are very often at odds with eachother due to their overwhelming suspicions. Because of this, the SSS is mainly in charge of taking down spies, especially those from Westalis, making them one of the biggest threats to Twilight in Ostanian territory.
History[]
The SSS arrests a young woman for "suspicious behavior".
The SSS is implied to have been created sometime after the war between Ostania and Westalis, in order to maintain the peace on the country despite the tensions between the two nations. They are mostly focused on taking down infiltrating spies on the country, especially those sent by WISE, the Westalian Intelligence organization. In order to catch intruders, the SSS goes on various extreme lenghts in order to capture and arrest potential spies on their country. Millie, one of Yor Forger's coworkers, mentions a case in which a 30 year old woman was arrested by the SSS after being denounced by her neighbours for "suspicious behavior", which seemed to partly stem from the fact that she was still single. This constant paranoia and repression has led to a widespread fear of the Secret Police by the Ostanian population.
Although they claim to do all this for Ostania, the SSS only seems to care about the country's appearances as they have no qualms about capturing (er, even executing) peaceful Protestants and were willing to allow civilians to die in crossfire if it meant that they would catch terrorists.
Additionally, there are instances in which the SSS manages to successfully catch spies. That was the case for Jim Hayward, a WISE informant who worked at the financial and was exchanging intel with Westalis agents in exchange for money that he uses to engage in extramarital affairs. He was caught, interrogated and arrested by Second Lieutenant Yuri Briar. One of their primary targets is the spy known as "Twillight". His secret identity and status as a master of disguises gave him the fame of being the best spy in Westalis one of the most wanted individuals in Ostania, with the SSS still trying to uncover his identity and capture him. Currently, Twilight is living undercover in Ostania under the identity of "Loid Forger" and with a fake family in order to complete his Operation STRIX.

Trivia[]
- Befitting the series' Cold War Germany inspired setting, the SSS is largely inspired by the Ministry of State Security commonly known as Stasi, an intelligence affiliated with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union that acted on East Germany during the Berlin Wall period of the country, that was known for being one of the most repressive and effective secret police agencies to ever exist.
- Likewise, the SSS's emblem also seems to take inspiration on the emblem of the Stasi, which consisted of a shield and a sword. The wings seen on the logo, however, seem to be a nod to the symbol of the Nazi Eagle, worn by the officials of Nazi Germany during World War II.
- The standard uniform of the SSS also bears a vague resemblance to the uniforms worn by the military in the nazi period.

- In the anime adaptation, the SSS emblem no longer has the organization's name and initials on the shield, likely due to not evoke any more similiarities with the SS paramilitary organization from the real life Nazi Germany.
