The Steel Inquisitors are a major antagonistic faction in Mistorn era 1, by Brandon Sanderson. They were created by Rashek to serve as his enforcers within the final empire, particularly to hunt allomancers. Unbeknownst to Rashek, Ruin desired the creation of the Iquisitors, as their hemalurgic spikes allowed him to control them.
Creation[]
Inquisitors were created using Hemalurgy, an ability which allowed them to steal allomantic and feruchemical powers by impaling their victims with a spike and then impanting that same spike somewhere in their own bodies. Inquisitors were particularly known for having spikes where their eyes should be. Inquisitors were often allomancers, particularly Seekers, as on of their main goals was to hunt enemy allomancers.
History[]
The inquisitors served Rashek in the Final Empire. When they discovered Vin, they tried to hunt her. They mutilated and slaughtered Vin's former thieving crew in an attempt to find her. They also captured and tortured her brother, Reen, but he didn't give her up.
When Vin and Kelsier attacked Kredik Shaw, Vin battled against an Inquisitor, and was rescued by Sazed. Marsh was sent to infiltrate the Inquisition and was accepted into their ranks, becoming an Inquisitor himself. Later, Kelsier battled against a Steel Inquisitor and killed him. Kelsier was the first person to kil an Inquisitor in living memory, which helped make him legendary.
Later, Vin attempted to infiltrate Kredik Shaw and was captured by the Inquisitors. They forced her to tell them whom her father was. She told them it was Tavidian, the leader of the Obligators. Kar used this information to convince Rashek to kill Tavidian and give the power of the Obligators over to Tavidian. When Vin battled Rashek, Marsh killed Kar and the rest of the Inquisitors.
When Vin accidentally awakened Ruin, Ruin took control of the Inquisitors, making Marsh their leader. He gave them more powers, so they would all be as powerful as Rashek. A group of them battled against Vin. Marsh, managing to control himself for a few moments, removed Vin's earing, which was actually a Hemalurgic spike, so she could take on the power of Preservation and defeat the Inquisitors.
After Ruin was defeated, Marsh became the last living Inquisitor. He became an agent for Harmony.
