I took this job because I wanted to help change kids' lives for the better. Of course these procedures are far from ideal; I cried like a baby when I read them. But I started looking past the here and now, started looking down the road a bit. That's when it clicked. What your researchers can do down here will someday help a lot of people out there, including so so many kids. That's a bigger and better change than I could ever have hoped to make. That's a change I want to help make.
~ Stella's response to learning about the Bigger Bodies Initiative.

Stella Greyber is a supporting character of the Poppy Playtime franchise. She was a higher-up at Playtime Co. and its Head of Playcare.

She was voiced by Nola Klop who also voiced Poppy in the same game, and V from Murder Drones.

Personality[]

Stella joined Playtime Co. out of her belief that nobody ever truly grows up. She is engrossed in the notion that childhood feels eternal and that no one ever really feels like an adult. She wanted to help children have joyful childhoods and to reclaim the innocence she once had as a young child. This ambition allowed her to climb the corporate ladder and become a Higher-Up as the Head of Playcare.

Despite her warm and compassionate demeanor, she actively participated in the Bigger Bodies Initiative, as demonstrated by the Cross-Department and Employee Instructions, and was therefore aware of the company's brutal experimentation and mistreatment of Playcare's orphans. This reveals a much darker side to her, which paradoxically goes against the reason she joined Playtime Co. in the first place—to provide kids a happy childhood—as she is willing to allow orphans to be transformed into living toys in order to keep her job. She rationalizes this by believing the scientific breakthroughs in the initiative would save many more lives than those taken as.

Unlike Pierre (who is a heartless selfish scumbag) and Sawyer (who is a complete monster), she seems to show remorse for her actions. As shown when she seems apologetic due to being unable to help a couple, the Hartmann's, adopt an orphan named Jeremy due to Jeremy being used as a test subject. Despite being willing to take part in the experiments, she still cares about the kids and is upset at Sawyer for not caring about them.

Trivia[]

  • It's still unknown what happened to her, but she is implied to be one of the few staff members who either managed to survive The Hour of Joy and redeemed herself or died in said event.
    • There is a theory that she is the identity of The Protagonist. This would explain why the player was welcomed back to Playcare in the nightmare sequence.
    • However in Chapter 4, Harley Sawyer does not seem to recognize the player, having never seen them before. This implies that The Protagonist was a low-ranking employee.
  • She was widely theorized to be Poppy Playtime in the present, given her desire to live forever and similar personality traits, along with both of them being voiced by Nola Klop. However it was contradicted by the fact that she was still around after Poppy was created. To further debunk this, an untitled VHS tape in Safe Haven reveals Poppy to be the daughter of Elliot Ludwig.
  • A crudely made statue of her and Elliot were used as placeholders in a prototype build of the Playcare. Though, they had been scrapped in the final game.
