~ Steven J Lockjaw after meeting Perfidia Beverely Hills for the first time.

Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw is the main antagonist of the 2025 action comedy film One Battle After Another.

In his characterization, he is a Colonel of the United States military who is tasked with imprisoning and deporting illegal immigrants crossing the Mexican border. Eventually he crossed paths with a revolutionary vigilante group known as the French 75, becoming their sworn adversary in the process.

Soon enough he encountered Perfidia Beverly Hills, a member of the French 75 whom he developed a sexual fascination towards; Lockjaw soon coerced Perfidia into sleeping with him and ended up fathering her child Charlene as a result. Sixteen years later, he becomes obsessed with joining a white supremacist secret society known as the Christmas Adventurers upon being offered an invitation. This soon involves planning to find and kill Charlene, now known as Willa Ferguson, along with her surrogate father Bob in order to prevent the Christmas Adventurers from finding out about his interracial relationship in the past.

He was portrayed by Sean Penn, who also played Mick O'Brien in Bad Boys, David Kleinfeld in Carlito's Way, Sergeant Tony Maserve in Casualties of War, Samuel Bicke in The Assassination of Richard Nixon, Willie Stark Talos in the 2006 remake of All the King's Men and Mickey Cohen in Gangster Squad.

Personality[]

Despite being a respected military leader, Stephen Lockjaw is actually a cruel and arrogant individual who sees himself as superior to everyone around him. As a supporter of white supremacy, he views people of different ethnicities as less than human that he alone must destroy or imprison. However, his own bias is not supported by his own perversity, as shown as when he lusts after Perfidia Beverly Hills, a black revolutionary.

His attempt to join the Christmas Adventurers is nothing short of self-serving and ambitious as it shows his desire for a higher calling among high society, most likely linked to his desire to be seen as a superior man. However, when threatened with the possibility of his affair being found out, he immediately resorts to extreme ruthless measures to cover up his indiscretions - such as the time he led the army to impose martial law on the town of Baktan Cross for the sole purpose of finding and killing his daughter Willa. It is shown that he regrets having to do it as he genuinely loved her mother, but his own fragile ego and self-righteous hypocrisy prevents him from changing his malicious course.

When he finally meets his daughter, he acts indifferent towards her until he learns that they really are biologically related. When he learns the truth, he can’t commit the crime himself so he sends her to a bounty hunter than kill her himself. Despite this, he projects his own insecurities onto her by calling her racial slurs and threatening her frequently. In the end, his actions amount to nothing as the Adventurers learn about the child and send a hitman to kill him, making his efforts in vain. When his truth comes to light, he denies it outright by claiming that Perfidia "raped him in reverse" to save himself. However, this backfires as it made them figure his affair with Perfidia and he is silently murdered by the same people he was willing to sacrifice his daughter’s life for.
