~ Steven Parkett trying to comfort one of his victims. |
Steven Parkett is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "X". He is a deranged serial killer who murders and mutilates people so he can achieve gratification from their severed limbs.
He was portrayed by Eric Frentzel.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Parkett's mother died in childbirth, leaving him to be raised by his schizophrenic, alcoholic, physically abusive father. He grew up socially isolated and retreated into his increasingly violent fantasy life, which revolved around mutilating young women. He lived his entire life in the same isolated hovel that he was raised in.
He was exceptionally intelligent, however, and was accepted to Bakersfield University. There, he became obsessed with classmate Christine Locke and began stalking her, to the point that she took out a restraining order against him. Locke later began dating a professor named Dylan Myers, which sent Parkett over the edge with jealousy, attacking and killing them both and dismembering their bodies. He then sold the limbs on the Internet to Frank Cowles, a family man who is secretly sexually aroused by severed body parts.
"X"[]
Parkett buys a prostitute, Kim Eakle, from a human trafficking ring, and kills and mutilates her. His bloodlust unsatisfied, he buys another woman, Angie Stanton, who had been kidnapped by the same ring. After severing her arm, Parkett plants evidence in Myers' house, as revenge for Myers "stealing" Locke from him.
Meanwhile, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) starts investigating the murders, profiling the killer as a socially inept man from an abusive home who lives in isolation, and whose murder spree was triggered by a romantic rejection. Technical analyst Penelope Garcia tracks down Cowles' purchase of the limbs, but when agents David Rossi and Kate Joyner interrogate him, he denies killing anyone, saying he "only" bought the body parts online. Garcia tracks the sale to Parkett, and he becomes the prime suspect.
Meanwhile, Stanton tries to win Parkett over by sympathizing with him about his loneliness. Her ploy works, and Parkett cuddles up to her, giving her a chance to knock him out. As she flees from him, the BAU arrives and saves her. Parkett retreats back to his shed, where he lies in wait until Joyner rushes in after him. She blindsides her, but Supervisory Agent Aaron Hotchner shoots him dead before he can harm her.
Aftermath[]
In the season 10 finale episode "The Hunt", the BAU tracks down and arrests a human trafficking ring led by Alex Zorgen and Donna Mangold, and discover that they sold Parkett his victims.
